Open Question

Thought the power cord was damaged. ordered a new one but when I plug it the machine does not turn on

Usually you just step on and hit enter but nothing happens. Am I missing something? I am off warranty...wuold have gotten an extenede one if offered because I really like this machine but now I may need repair...

This solution worked. Turn it off at the switch on the machine. Unplug the power cord from the machine and any phone lines. Leave it alone for a half hour. Then, plug in the power cord, then the phone lines. Then turn it back on using the switch on the machine. After it cycles on, re-program the machine. Poof! Problem solved. Looks like you have to give the machine amnesia for it to work again.

Installing a 220 VAC Appliance Cord


This advice is on how to correctly install an ELECTRIC DRYER or ELECTRIC RANGE 220-240VAC power cord (US Standards).

3-Prong or 4-Prong – The Difference:

3-prong color code:

BLACK (HOT – 110-120VAC) – May also be referred to as L1
RED (HOT – 110-120VAC) – May also be referred to as L2
WHITE (NEUTRAL – 0VAC) – Usually grounded to the equipment frame via a jumper wire or metal strap.

4-prong color code:

BLACK (HOT – 110-120VAC) – May also be referred to as L1
RED (HOT – 110-120VAC) – May also be referred to as L2
WHITE (NEUTRAL – 0VAC) – DO NOT ground to equipment frame.
GREEN (GROUND) – Attach to equipment frame.

Which One to Use: According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), Article 250, installations after the year 2000, require the use of a 4-prong plug which incorporates a separate ground and neutral wire. If you currently have a home that uses the 3-prong receptacle and cord, you can continue to use it. You will have to upgrade to a 4-prong configuration, however, if you plan on relocating your current receptacle, or if the internal wires of the receptacle become damaged in any way and require repair.

Converting from 3-prong to 4-prong: Make sure you UNPLUG the appliance prior to any repairs. CAUTION: Voltages dangerous to life are still present even with the appliance turned off and still plugged in. Notably in the area of the terminal block where the power cords are installed. You will need to remove the old cord by following these steps:

  1. With the appliance UNPLUGGED, remove the access panel on the back of the unit where the power cord enters.
  2. With the cover removed, you will see a terminal block where the power cord is attached. The terminal wires will be colored with the WHITE wire in the middle, and the BLACK and RED wires on either end. NOTE: There should be a green jumper wire or metal bonding strap attached to the NEUTRAL (white) terminal wire.
  3. Remove the terminal lugs holding the old power cord wires in place. CAUTION: Use care not to drop any nuts or screws inside the appliance.
  4. Remove the bonding strap or ground wire from the Neutral terminal lug. NOTE: If disconnecting a ground wire, make sure you re-attach it to the appliance frame.
  5. Loosen the screws on the strain relief connector that holds the power cord in place and remove old power cord. NOTE: If your appliance does not have a strain relief that clamps down and hold the power cord in place, it is highly recommended that you install one. This prevents chaffing of the power cord against the appliance casing, and prevents the terminal wires from being pulled and broken loose. This could pose a potential shock hazard or cause damage to the appliance.
  6. Install new power cord by threading it through the strain relief connector and tighten down the screws.
  7. Connect the new power cord to the corresponding colors at the terminal block (Black goes to Black, Red goes to Red, White goes to White). The difference is going to be a Green (ground) wire that will connect to the appliance frame. There’s usually a green grounding screw for this. NOTE: If you disconnected a green grounding strap in Step 4., you can connect these two wires at the same point.
  8. Re-install access cover. Turn off the service breaker to the appliance PRIOR to plugging it back in. With the breaker in the off position, plug the appliance in, and THEN turn the breaker on. In the event, something was wired incorrectly, it is far better to have your hands away from the receptacle and controlled from a distance. Safety first.
These steps will work for nearly all appliances that require a 220-240VAC power cord conversion. The power cords are usually rated at 250VAC, 30 amps, and are carried by any hardware store or appliance parts retailer.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  1. If you desire to convert an appliance from a 4-prong to a 3-prong, make sure you reconnect the bonding strap and/or ground wire to the Neutral (white) wire at the terminal block.
  2. On some newer appliances, it is REQUIRED that you use a 4-prong plug in order for the timer or clock circuits to function properly due to the way they are configured. Refer to your owner’s manual for the correct recommendation. Even if you currently have a 3-prong receptacle, you still may be required to upgrade to a 4-prong if you encounter this situation.
  3. In many circumstances, new appliances are NOT sold with the power cord due to the various power configurations in homes. Always refer to the contents description on the shipping container the appliance comes with to see what additional items or tools may be required for installation.

2.
Remove the power cord from the back of the product.
3.
Check the power cord for any physical damage. If the power cord is damaged, replace the power cord.

Turn the product off and then on again

1.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn the product off.

Wait 60 seconds, and then press the Power button ( ) to turn the product back on.

Plug the product into a wall outlet
Follow these steps to make sure the product is plugged in correctly.

Unplug the power cord from the back of the product.
2.
Unplug the power cord from any surge protectors or power strips.
3.
Select a wall outlet to plug the product into. Test the wall outlet by plugging another electric appliance, such as a lamp, into the wall outlet and turning it on. Unplug the test appliance.

Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
6.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn the product on.

Solution six: Reset the product
Follow these steps to reset the printer.

1.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the product.
2.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
3.
Wait 10 seconds, and then plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
4.
Plug the power cord into the back of the product.
NOTE: Many power cords have an LED light on the power module or on the end of the cord that plugs into the product. Make sure the LED light is lit and steady.
5.
Press the Power button ( ) to turn the product on.

If the issue persists , continue to the next solution.

6. Perform a partial reset of the product
  1. Disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Wait for 20 seconds.
  3. Press and hold # and 3 while reconnecting the power cord.
  4. When the product turns on, release both buttons.
  5. Try printing again.

IF still won't resolve it by following steps mentioned above then your printer needs replacement. Malfunctioning hardware.

My Lexmark C544dn laser printer just up and died - I had just put in new paper, hit print on my Mac and when nothing happened, I realized the machine was off. Yes, I checked the power cord at the machine...


Please try to do the following steps

• Check the AC line voltage. Is the line voltage correct? If not connect it to the correct line voltage
• Check if the AC line cord damaged. If damaged replace the AC line cord
• Is the LVPS cable correctly connected at JLVPS1 on the controller board? If not Reconnect the cable at JLVPS1
• Turn the printer off, and then on. Does the problem persist?
• Damage to the printer is possible. Be careful to touch only one conductor at a time, Rest the probe against the connector to steady it.
• Replace the LVPS - Low-voltage power supply (LVPS)

When lighting hit and the wii go out what do i do to make it come on


Usually, after a power outage, a power spike (when the power returns) can disable/blow the fuse in the AC adapter for the Wii.

Try the following steps in this order:

FIRST:
- unplug the Wii's power cord from the wall, and leave it unplugged (from 5 mins. to 5 hours). Then, plug it back into the wall. (Unplugging the power cord from the back of the Wii will not help. You need to unplug the power cord from the wall.)
- This usually helps reset the fuse circuit in the AC adapter, and your Wii should work again.

SECOND:
- open the panel on the AC adapter box in the power cord; since the screws are proprietary, you will need to creatively use existing tools to turn the screws
- check the 3A fuse in that box; if it looks blown, then replace it

THIRD:
- it might be cheaper to replace the AC adapter with another one

FOURTH:
- get the unit repaired

MUST DO:
- buy a good SURGE PROTECTOR power bar, and plug all of your expensive items into it (to prevent this from happening again).

Power supply light on or flashes Perform the following steps, in order, until power is restored or it is determined that there is a hardware failure: CAUTION: This product contains components that are easily damaged by ElectroStatic Discharge (ESD). To reduce the chance of ESD damage, work over a non-carpeted floor, use a static dissipative work surface (like a conductive foam pad), and wear an ESD wrist strap that is connected to a grounded surface, like the metal frame of a PC.
  1. Disconnect everything from the computer, including the power cord.
  2. With the power cord disconnected , press the power button on the front of the computer for five seconds. Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps. NOTE: If the power supply fan makes an inconsistent grinding sound or stops and starts erratically, replace the power supply
  3. With the power cord removed, flip the red voltage selector switch to the opposite position. Wait about five seconds, and then switch the red voltage selector switch back to its original location. Ensure that the voltage selector switch is on the correct setting, 115V for North America. Performing this step ensures that the voltage switch is engaged and set correctly for your country/region. Figure 4: Voltage selector switch c00517964.jpg Plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.
  4. Plug a lamp into the same outlet to see if the wall outlet has power. Try the computer in a different outlet in order to eliminate the outlet as a possible source of the issue. Test both to see if the wall outlets have power.
  5. Remove all extension cords, power strips, surge protectors and any converters that remove ground. Plug the power cable directly to the wall outlet. Test for power. If this fixes the issue, find the device that is causing the issue and do not use it. NOTE: If you find the device that was causing the problem was a surge protector, resetting a breaker or fuse on the surge protector may fix the issue.
  6. Remove all attached devices except for keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  7. Remove any internal component that was recently added, such as video card, memory, CD, DVD, and hard drives. An added device may take more power than the power supply is rated for. If the problem goes away when the component is removed, the only option is to upgrade the power supply to power supply with a higher wattage rating.
  8. Check the power switch:
    1. With the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the front of the PC. The button should release easily and not stick in the socket.
      • If the button sticks, it should be replaced or serviced.
      • If the power button does not stick and appears to be functioning, continue using these steps.
    2. With the power cord disconnected, remove the case or side panel.
    3. Follow the wires from the power button on the front of the computer to their connection on the motherboard.
    4. Look at the power switch cables connected to the motherboard. If the cable has become disconnected, connect the power switch cable connector to the connector on the motherboard. Figure 5: Power switch connector on Motherboard c00517968.jpg
    5. Replace the side panel, plug in the power cord and test to see if the computer can turn on. If not, continue using these steps.

Your problem indicates that your printer is not getting the power supply .

  • Check the power cord for any physical damage. If the power cord is damaged, replace the power cord.

  • If the power cord is not damaged, plug the power cord into a different electrical outlet without using a surge protector. The product power light should turn on.

  • If the product power light does not turn on, the power cord should be replaced.

Printer takes a long time to start


Hi! Sorry to hear of this issue! There are a few steps you can do to diagnose the issue. If these steps do not work, let me know and I can suggest other steps or which part you may need to order. I can be emailed directly at: bosscomputers@comcast.net or http://bosscomputers.org Follow the steps below to ensure power is properly supplied to the printer: Check the power module part number against the part number listed in the User?s Guide to ensure the proper power adapter is being used. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet. Disconnect the printer data cable from the printer. Disconnect the power cord from the printer, wait thirty seconds, then reconnect the power cord to the printer. Reconnect the power cord directly into a working wall outlet. If the power cord was plugged into a surge protector or power strip, plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet instead. If the printer still will not turn on, plug the printer into a wall outlet in another room. If the printer turn on when connected to an electrical outlet in another room, there is a problem with the power in the original room. If there is still no power to the printer, then the power cord or printer may be defective. Try the power cord on another HP Deskjet or Photosmart printer to see if the power cord is functioning. If the power cord does not work on the other printer, it is defective. Replace the power cord. If the power cord works on the other printer, then this printer is defective. Service your printer. If another printer is not available to test with, carefully inspect the power cord for damage. Inspect the power cord for visible damage. If the power cord is damaged, replace the power cord first. If this does not resolve the issue, or if the power cord looks fine, then service your printer.
