Pull the paper tray completely out. using a flashlight, look into that section. There should be a black flag hanging down. That is the paper out sensor flag. If it's not hanging down, look at the roof of that section and see if you can find it hung up. If it's there, carefully pull it downward gently. If it's missing, time to call in the technician because the main board is going to have to be opened up to replace that missing part.

When I put black paper or envelope in the printer - it claims there is no paper -

The optical sensor is trying to reflect light itself, to the paper/envelope, and back to the sensor.
When no light reflects back, it claims "no paper".

Try a different colour of envelope/paper.

Or, determine in which corner of the paper that the sensor is, and paint a small amount of "Liquid Paper" onto that corner of the envelope, and let it dry thoroughly.
Then, when the sensor is over that "white" corner, the light will reflect, and you'll be able to print.
Then, scrape-off the "Liquid Paper" (or "White-Out").

After printing on cardstock paper from Avery, I have attempted to print on the back side of the same paper. The printer will not allow it. Keeps sending me a message saying "out of paper", and there is...

Possible that the paper indetect is sensing a bad signal from the used paper and so is not accepting , it can also be black spots which may not reflect the opto sensors.
If with the right printing paper- new- there is no issues please do not attempt to correct.

Have X3 Zebra 140Xilll printers. These printers will stop printing with a message "Error condition Paper out". But the paper is loaded. Everything seems fine. What can I do? Thanks Steve Rolland

Check and clean the sensors, also the reflective surface. Make sure there are no lables stuck to the reflective surface. Use Isopropyl Alcohol to clean.

HP 5510 All In One. Error message Paper Jam when printing photo paper 8X10. There is no paper jam. Plain paper runs right through.

Have you changed the paper properties to reflect that you are using a heavier weight paper?

If not, then the printer might not be set right for the paper you are using and that can cause the problem you are seeing.

Zebra 110Xilll Plus Printer Not Recognizing Media

You can run the manual calibration from the menu , just follow the directions. Also run the sensor profile to print out the digital representation of the media sensor .If you are using standard label stock this should tell you if the transmissive sensor is good. Depends on the media, follow the users manual if different media requirements.

Paper out error message

Recalibrate the printer via the Menu system, if this doesn't work you might have a faulty paper out sensor. Another thing to check that there is no old labels stuck on the upper side, this means label gum etc as the sensor is reflective.

Ibm 6400 Printer thin 3 copy module loading problem

the 6400 paper present sensor works off the reflection of the paper itself, so if the paper you are using is black on the back the sensor cannot work as there will be no reflection. You need to remove the sensor and rotate it in its housing 90 degres so that it is facing the flag on the paper motion sensor, you may also have to paint this flag white (reflection to work) tipex is ok for this.
