Question about Samsung LN46A630 46 in. LCD HDTV

1 Answer

TV clicking on and off with colored screens and noises, not power supply capacitors this time.

I have an LN46A630M1FXZA Samsung TV and have experienced the power supply capacitor problem. I replaced the swollen and discolored capacitors and received several months of good service. Now I'm experiencing a similar problem of turning on and off except this time there are alternating green striped screens, pink and blue screens with faint picture, and sometimes an excrutiating squealing white noise sound with some of the different screens. After 5 to 10 minutes a good picture will come on and stay on indefinately. This has been going on for several months. Thinking this was another power supply problem but finding no swollen capacitors, I replaced the power supply board and have the same problem so it looks like it's probably not the ps this time. Would certainly appreciate any advice on where to look next.

If you don't know what you're doing, don't open it up to fix it!
There are HAZARDOUS voltages on the power supply board EVEN WITH THE TV UNPLUGGED!!! The capacitors can hold a charge for several weeks!

Clicking noise can be coming from bad capacitors on the power supply board.

It's usually easier to just replace the power supply board.

Samsung LCD slow to power on.

Sounds like main power regulator board fault. Contact the authorized service centre to buy a genuine board; or check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time. Even though you can make it right, it will cost around an amount equal to the cost of a new board; including the cost of (spare parts + service charge) More to say, most of the spare parts to it will be difficult to get from open electronic spare part market. This is true to most of the flat panel TV power supply boards; irrespective of its brand and screen size.

Without an EST meter you could not tell if you have bad caps anyway. So it was a shot in the dark. The caps dont have to be on the main PSU. They can be on the other parts too. Also the PSU you bought might have bad caps

Clicking noises before TV turns on.

The clicking noise is coming from the power supply relay. Is makes this sound when the TV is usually turned on or off but has become faulty. It will only get worse over time usually until the TV will no longer turn on anymore. You need to replace the power supply in order to fix the TV.
