Question about Singer 1725
The presser bar will not move up and down, even though the lever works. I've taken off the face plate and can not figure out what needs to be oiled or how to fix it. The springs are not gunked up. I have photos to add if that would help.

SOURCE: Presser foot lever stuck
You lever doesn't work because the presser foot Bar is seized from lack of use.Open the side of the machine to access the bar. Put a mixture of water and ammonia ( about 80%water 20% ammonia) on the top and bottom of the bar. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then try to move the presser foot Up by lifting the foot with a screw driver. Do not pry so hard you break something. It should get progressively easy the more times you do this. Put some sewing machine oil on the top and bottom of the shaft and it should be good to go.

SOURCE: My presser foot bar moves
I just looked at your manual on www.singerco.com and all I can see is that maybe, your chosen stitch length is not long enough, or your feed dogs are not up. Another possibility could be tangled thread or fabric is too slippery(try some tissue paper under fabric) check your needle size. If, you misplaced your manual it is free on the above website. Good luck, sometimes machines are just being ornery.

SOURCE: The Presser Bar on my Singer 66 does not move up or down when I use the Presser Bar Lever. It seems to be stuck solid and therefore it will not lower onto the feed dogs to enable me to sew. The Presse
it's possible that the presser bar could be bent or damaged, the only way to know what is exactly wrong would be to take it to a sewing machine repair shop
