Question about Sony Audio Players & Recorders
Cable that im trying to use is a 3.5mm jack which splits into the audio red/white plugs
If I understand correctly, you have a 3.5mm plug into your Samsung laptop, which is then connected to your Sony surround system via the red/white RCA plugs. I assume for the input to the Sony you're using a standard audio-in. I would check the speaker setup settings on the Sony to ensure that the "bass" and not just LFE (low frequency effects) are being sent to the sub-woofer. My understanding is that LFE is found only on Dolby or DTS encoded soundtracks, and if the subwoofer is limited to just LFE you wouldn't be getting any bass when listening to two channel stereo from your laptop.

You must run a Digital Optical cable from your PS3 to your reciever. Then press your function button on your recievers remote until you see SAT/CABLE on your recievers display. Next go to your PS3 settings and go to Sound settings, then Audio Output settings, and select Digital out (OPTICAL) then your done. This is the only way to get true digital sound from your PS3 to your reciever.

Try connecting the red and white audio cords to your system from your cable box/satellite receiver instead of your tv. Worked for me.

I just finished setting up my system last night and was facing similar problems with sound/video from my PS3. The only option I could get working was to have the HDMI cable connected from the PS3 to the TV and then connect the Optical cable to the receiver for sound. I was under the impression that HDMI handles sound and video but for whatever reason the PS3 does not agree.
I have DTS sound and fantastic picture now through my PS3, hope this helps.
