Question about Mitel 5224 IP Phone
I just received a mitel 5224 through the post from head office - it was new, still in its cling wrap.. I plugged it into the my BT homehub but it is not showing any sign of life.. No screen or ring tone, I tried 2 different cat4 cables (both of which work with my laptop). I've tried pugging it into a D-Link network extender and directly into my laptop. None of these make the phone do anything. Additionally when plugged into the Homehub the admin screen for the home hub didn't detect that anything was plugged into it. Is there some sort of switch to turn it on that i'm missing or is the phone faulty?
You should have received a power supply with the phone. If it is new, and will not turn on at all, there is a good chance it is not plugged in correctly. You should have two Ethernet cables plugged into the rear of the phone. One for Data, and another for power.
Once on, it will still have to be set up by your IP Service provider.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Not too sure about the no dial tone issue, but you can check to see if the DND is turned on...
Press the Blue Superkey and scroll thru till you see DND (Do Not Disturb) is on and shut it off.

your phone has lost connection with the contoller; call for service. Or your phone is broken. There is no "on or off switch".

SOURCE: fatal exception error
Those are just messages about the stream sockets closing without the protocol closing the connection cleanly. What that means is that the Data network is not configured correctly, I assume somebody made a change or upgraded a network switch and didn't configure it correctly.

SOURCE: how do i manually configure
Press and hold the up arrow.
Configure Phone - Yes
network parameters - yes
press no until you see "change" and press yes.
You will need to set the following appropriately.
IP address, Subnet address, default gateway, ICP controller address, TFTP address, VLAN ID, VLAN priority, DiffServe Value, DNS address.
Normally it is not necessary to set the phone static except for testing. If your network and DHCP server is set up properly, you are not gaining any benefit for setting it static.
Also, you should find out what the other IP addressess are that are static on the Voice subnet. Along with that, you will need to know the DHCP range. These are needed so you don't assign a duplicate IP address to your network. Assign the phone to the wrong device could do great harm to your network. Assign it to use the same IP address as the phone system and none of your phones will operate.
Use with caution,
