Sounds like one of the cavity switches is bad. Open back of dryer, you will see wires that attach to little clip next to each other. Try jumping wire from one side to the other, do one switch at a time and try dryer to see if heats, if you get heat replace that switch. These switches burn out if dryer gets to hot, usually from to much lint in duct work. Also vacuum out duct work in wall and on back of dryer.

If it does not shut off during the cool down part of the cycle then the issue is with the electronics

Dryer timer won't shut off at end of cycle. Dryer runs, but no heat. It is a Whirlpool model number LGR4634JQ2.

Since you say that the dryer runs but have no heat, plus the timer won't shut off the odds are the timer is bad. The timer would tell the burner when to be on and when to shut down.

I have a Whirlpool gas dryer model #LGR7648KQ1. When I first start it it heats but after a short time it stops heating. It sounds like it is trying to start again but it will not.

The easiest way to check the ignitor is to observe it. Remove the small access panel in front, select a high temperature setting and start the dryer. Watch the burner assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should begin to glow or spark. If you see it glow or spark, then the ignitor is working.

You need a flame sensor

LGR7648KQ1 model, dosen't seemd to have in lint in

The thumping noise is a stress crack from poor construction when thr drum was made. I have the exact same problem and found the crack when I removed the top cover by removing the rear upper brace support screws and bracket, then sliding the top dryer panel towards the rear about 3.5" and then lifting it off for complete drum inspection. Rotate the drum by hand and you will see the crack...Mine is at the front, next to the drum seam.... We should all get together and file a class action suit...I'm sure this is a manufacturer fault related problem with this model..

The crack is probably allowing air to bypass the normal air flow through the filter too... Richard
