How do people try to control landslides

With great difficulty and ideas that cost shed loads of money that may not make any difference as gravity and momentum is the two forces that have to be controlled effectively
the only thing to do is to make sure that the imbalances that allow landslides are reduced to as close to zero as possible because when one starts deflecting its path is going to need a lot of work and money
you have 3 options
1 make sure they don't happen
2 deflect their line of travel
3 get out of their way

I have a grand voyager 2004 2.5 diesel, sometimes on starting all the dials turn clockwise to full capacity and then return to 0 before diesel light comes on and i am able to start it. Also the abs light...

Some vehicles have a self check where, when you turn it on the guages go all the way to maximum then back to zero. This is normal and part of the self check routine. If it is intermitant is might be a problem.
Because your ABS and SRS (airbag) lights are on, you have issue with your vehicle. Best bet is to take it to a mechanic and get it diagnosed. Better spend a little money now than a lot of money later.

Is it the power steering pump or the line that's leaking?

Stop driving it before you ruin the pump or steering rack. Replace any leaking hoses, flush the system with correct fluid and fill.

Brake line replacement

what i usually do if the money is available is purchase the brake lines in all sizes from the auto parts store and return any unused parts to the auto parts store, for a refund. they usually know the sizes you need ; you could also do the front first then the rear, or replace one line to get the size, also need a tubing bender to bend the brake lines, 'bleeder screws are usually three choices or go to ford or mercury, once you get started its not too bad, beware of compression fittings (unsafe to do it that way) Good Luck .
