Ink tank error

My pixma mp 830 keeps telling me that I have more than one of the black ink cartriges installed, but I don't.  Sometimes, if I take it out and put it back in, I can get the printer to work temporarily.  What should I do?  It's really annoying!

I am having the same problem, my Cannon MP830 printer which I have had for months is deciding to send me an error message intermittently "More than one ink tanks of the same color are installed". I have one ink tank of each color brand new. If I take out the black tank & reinstall it the error goes away. Please help any fixes?

    Same problem!

Same problem. When I spoke with the manager at Staples who sold me this printer, he advised that this was a recognized problem and that Cnon had a "patch" to download. I am unable, however, to find that magic patch and the Canon site has been "unavailable" for several days. I'm really tired of restarting this printer to print each page!

Same problem and its a hassel. Is there a solution?

This printer has certainly ended my love affair with canon products. I open and close and the error will go away for one copy then comes back, but this is not a fix.

With the same issue I tried all the suggestion expressed on this site before having to call Canon support. They immedialety created a RMA to replace my #5 pigment catridge after describing errors U071 and U150. The U150 error means the printer can not identify a catridge is installed. I asked support if a software patch existed. He stated that it wasn't printer hardware/software problem but actually something wrong with the circuit chip on the print catridge itself. They are UPSing out a new catridge with the requirement to return the defective one for research. Thanks for your FIXYA.

The error message reads as: U071 More than one ink tank of the black is installed which is not. I tried several times to uninstall and install back the ink still cannot get it working. Very frustrated!!!

I'm having the same problem everyone else described. I've had the printer for about 14 months and suddenly this error pops up. I've just contacted Canon so I'll see what they say. It's good to know that they reimbursed at least one other customer for their "faulty" cartridges. This is a cool Web site.

My large black tank gave the symptoms described. The new replacement tank continues in the same manner. However now it WILL NOT reset after repeated attempts. I shall try a third tank and if the malfunction continues I shall become aggressive withCanon. D.D.

This is not a solution only a further comment. I replaced the Canon with another brand . However before trashing it I tried a third tank. This tank brought the machine back to life and sixty days later it is functioning without problems. My guess would be extremely poor quality control on the circuits on the tanks. Their attempts to maximize profits on the ink has damaged the reliability of the machines. I do not know if it is possible but before replacing this printer check to see if any are available without chip circuitry on the tanks. Good luck D.D.

It certainly is not convenient to be always returning cartridges for exchange. Cannon ought to tell us how to solve the problem. When I purchased this printer it was promoted as the top of the line all-in-one printer. Far from it. I have never had a printer with this type of recurring problem. It is not good enough to be always buying new cartridges especially as the are not inexpensive.

One thing that has worked for me is to leave the printer on. I found this highly reduces the frequency of the error.

Had the same error after replacing my black ink om my MP830.(UO71) I Put some Methylated Spirits on a cotton tip and gently cleaned the cartridge chip (allow it to air dry). This fixed my problem!

That was exactly the problem. I put a new black cartridge and problem gone. Guess I will be saving my receipts in the future. Thanks again!

I have this too, and what other sites said was that this is a problem with the cartridge chip (search for error U071 for more info). Apparently a new cartridge will solve the problem, and Canon will reimburse you (if it's a proper Canon cartridge).

For me it also works to 'shake things up' a bit, but removing the cartridges and putting them back in, but it keeps coming back. :<

Response to Canon critics: I have had my MP830 for 20 months with no trouble until now. It far and away out-performs the three different HP all-in-ones I have had and has given me less trouble as well. Problems like this are certainly annoying, especially when you rely on a product for a home business. However, I work this machine "like a dog" and it has been reliable for nearly 2 years. The print quality and scanning blows HP away. When I have to replace it, I will buy another Cannon.

Problem with canon printer pixma M130 it displays

Ok you need to know this secret with canon and epson printers:

They do not allow any remanufatured or refilled cartriges to work on their printers. Sometimes their printers make sure that such ink will not work (just keep that in mind)

However, if you have been using refilled cartriges before, and it worked, then you may have a defective cartrige. Where ever you got this refilled go back and tell them that you need a newly refilled one because the one they gave you is defective.

If that does not work go to Cartrige world (hopefully they are around where you live) or someplace that will take your cartrige in and give you another refilled cartrige and hopefully its not defective.

I hope this helps let me know ok?

Canon MP830 will not print Error code 5C10, And 5100

5C10 seems to indicate a paper jam. 5100 indicates either a paper jam or ink tanks not seated properly.

A) Paper jam: There is a rear cover on this model. Many paper jams cannot be seen from the outside. Sometimes even a scrap of paper from a previous jam will disrupt the paper path.

B) Follow your manual for installation of the ink tanks. Remove and replace the ink tanks carefully following the instructions.

C) Should these remedies not fix the problem, you can try resetting the device:

1) Press and hold the <On/Off> button until the display on the machine goes blank. (If this is unsuccessful, unplug the power cord).

2) Wait approx. 10 seconds and power back on. Wait until the printer completes its startup routine before trying another print job.

3) If solution fails, your MP 830 may require repair

Can anyone here solve my problem on the refilled black ink #830. I recently refilled the black cartridge then I installed it to the printer but indicates an error on black. Can anyone help me on this...

I think those cartridges are chipped to tell the printer how much ink is in them. Look for a chip zapper from the internet and as you search the solution will become evident. You need to probably reset the chip.

Error Code UO43

the wire strip that connects to the printing cartrige is probably brole or just comming out of its plug
try to push the wire strip back in and see if that does any good , if not then there is a problem inside of the printer
the wire strip is broke or comming unpugged or the detection circut that sees the cartriges has failed and needs repair
hope that helps!
