All appears to work...fan/light/ display....but no heating occurs. I assume not a fuse problem since all but heat working. Would a bad door switch...there are three....cause this?

You have burned micro switches in the door safety interlock system. I have answered this question dozens of times here - i am surprised this answer didnt come up when you searched your problem.

There are two reasons for the heat to not come on when everything else works ... three actually, the third is expensive.

1) the capacitor has failed - dont try to service this unless and until you understand the dangers associated with this repair.

2) burned safety door switches

3) failed magnatron (they rarely fail)

remove the cover - find the door switch. Test them. With the door closed, the switches should read closed. If they read open (because they are burned because you open the door when the oven is operating) the oven doesn't know the door is closed so it will not turn the mangatron on - no magnatron - no heat.

I hope this informaation helps you ...

The magnatron quit - is it worth getting fixed?

Magnatrons rarely go bad.

Check your door safety interlock switches. Do you open the door while the oven is operating?

If yes, you have burned the contacts of the little micro switches to the point that they are not functioning.

When this happens, the oven doesnt know the door is closed and will not turn the magnatron on.

Remove the cover, DONT TOUCH THE SILVER CAN, check the switches for contunity.

The other possibility is the silver can is bad - dont touch it unless and until you undersstand withat it is and what it does. It can be very dangerous.

First of all, my do it yourself expertise is very high. I have power to the microwave (panel, interior light, etc). When I try to operate the microwave - the electronic panel intications are normal, but...

BECAREFUL high voltage transformer inside of unit. Check for blown fuses on the control panel. Check the door interlock sitches. there are usually 2-3. A bad interlock will keep power from the magnatron. Check the thermal fuse, small dime sized disc with 2 wires. look for the schematic it will give the location usually near the magnatron. Checking the magnatron is a little more difficult.

Microwave doesn't heat

check your door safety interlock switches ...

switch burned = no circuit

no circuit = door open (as far as the oven is concerned)

door open = no magnatron action

no magnatron action = no heat

Of course it could be something else ... but if it is the switch, you can easy fix that.

Your primary interlock (bottom door switch) is bad, or its mount is loose or broken.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.

Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

It's usually more economical and safer to add a dab or two of hot glue to the mount to secure the switch. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before using.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Microwave won't heat

The two possible causes are a faulty door switch and a bad magnatron. You can pull the top cover off of the unit and check all of the door switches (there are 2-6 of them all on a common rail, me normally closed)). If the door switches all check out, replace the magnatron, diodesmag-glass_10x10.gif, and capacitor

If there is power to the unit and it is not doing anything at all, check the internal fuse. If it is lighting, fan works, and panel works, but not heating at all, the two possible causes are a faulty door switch and a bad magnatron. The high-voltage transformer is being overloaded by something shorting it out. Either the magnatron or the high-voltage capacitor and diode. Replace the capacitor and diode then if still not working, replace the magnatron. Its only affordable if you do it yourself - buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal magnatron"
Hope ya fix it!
