2003 Ford Expedition no crank no start

You say the instrument cluster is out ? You need to have a professional scan tool hooked up ,to see if all modules are communicating ! A code reader isn't going to be any help . If a module isn't communicating could an will bring down the Serial data bus ! Do you know what that is ? An if you replace the instrument cluster ,it has to go to the dealer for programming . An A bcc ,? your vehicle has a Vehicle Security Module ! No GEM , No smart junction box >
NOTE: Prior to removal of the vehicle security module, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to a diagnostic tool. This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to Section 418-01 .
The vehicle security module controls the remote keyless entry system and the computer-operated lock system. For additional information, refer to Section 501-14 .
Communications Network Module Communications Network Components
  • powertrain control module (PCM)
  • restraint control module (RCM)
  • instrument cluster
  • driver seat module (DSM)
  • climate controlled seat module
  • parking aid module
  • central junction box (CJB)
  • vehicle security module
  • air suspension control module
  • 4-wheel anti-lock brake/traction control (ABS/TC) module or stability assist module
  • electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) module
  • four-wheel drive (4WD) control module
  • power liftgate module
  • tire pressure monitoring system module
Principles of Operation
The vehicle has three module communication networks:
  • the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communications network
  • the international standards organization (ISO) 9141 communications network
  • the UART based protocol (UBP) communications network
The diagnostic tool connects to all three networks through the data link connector (DLC). This makes diagnosis and testing of these systems easier by allowing one smart tester to be able to diagnose and control any module on the three networks from one connector. The DLC can be found under the instrument panel between the steering column and the radio.
The driver and passenger climate controlled seat modules are on the UBP network. The climate controlled seat modules control the temperature of the driver and passenger seats. For additional information, refer to Section 501-10 .
The vehicle security module is on the UBP communication network. The vehicle security module controls a variety of systems:
  • windshield wipers
  • courtesy lamps
  • warning chimes
  • interior lamps
  • exterior lamps
  • power windows
  • perimeter security
  • RKE/keyless entry
  • lock functions
  • monitors the entry doors and radio
Sorry but you would only waste your money buying a code reader ! Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop Or the ford dealer .

What do I look for to fix the Power seats and power tilt steering has no power

A control module ! Electronics The steering column has a tilt/telescoping control system that consists of an electronic control module capable of class 2 serial data communication, a steering column power assembly with positioning motor and sensor, and a steering column control switch. The multi-function lever provides for the control of the headlamp high beams, and the windshield washer and wiper.
The tilt/telescoping steering column in/out/up/down switch is an input to the driver position module (DPM). The tilt/telescoping drive motor is an output function of the DPM.
Steering column memory settings are stored in the DPM. The steering column position sensor is an internal part of the tilt/telescoping motor assemblies, and is an input to the DPM. The DPM uses the position sensor input when storing and recalling memory settings.
Same thing with the seats , electronic control module .
Battery positive voltage is supplied at all times to the memory seat module (MSM) through the battery positive voltage circuit from the POWER SEATS circuit breaker located instrument panel (I/P) fuse block. This voltage is used to power up MSM and also to apply power to the seat motors when commanded. Battery positive voltage from the TILT/TELE SW/MEM SEAT MOD fuse located in the body control module (BCM) fuse block that supplies voltage to the seat adjuster switch and the memory function switch, also supplies voltage to the MSM. The MSM monitors this voltage circuit in order to determine if battery voltage is supplied to the seat adjuster switch. The MSM is grounded through the module ground circuit and G301.

While driving car will shut down along with all guages . after it sets it will start

This sounds more like a control module problem ! This mechanic ,did he hook up a scan tool an see if he could communicate with all the modules on the vehicle ? I have had vehicles that ran for 10 to 15 minutes then shut down an after it cooled down it started right up ! Ignition control module problem .That was back in the 80's . The amount of control modules on these vehicles today, an serial data bus communications , anything could cause your problem !
Class 2 Serial Data Link
The data link is configured as a ring with discrete lines entering and leaving each module. This allows communications to the modules on the ring if one of the two discrete circuits is open.
A total list of the control modules on the Class 2 Serial Data Line can include the following:
?€¢
Dash Integration Module (DIM)

?€¢
Driver Door Module (DDM)

?€¢
Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)

?€¢
Head Up Display (HUD) w/UV6

?€¢
HVAC Control Module w/C67

?€¢
Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR)

?€¢
Remote Playback Device - CD Changer w/U1S

?€¢
Theft Deterrent Control Module

?€¢
Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU) w/UE1

The following modules have only one communication line connection to the Class 2 data circuit:
?€¢
Driver Door Module (DDM)

?€¢
Head Up Display (HUD)

?€¢
Memory Seat Module (MSM) w/A45

?€¢
Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU) w/UE1

One of the first thing's I do is check for communication with scan tool an check for DTC's Then power an grounds at the modules ! You could have a sensor starting to go bad , shorting out when hot !

My power driver's seat 1999 lincoln continental keeps returning to the full back position even when i drive.I changed the entire seat frame with new motors and gears, $500.00 no fix. I have to pull the #39...

does this have automatic seat positioning when you open the door or hit the unlock button on your key fob?

here's how it works:

Seats — Programmable
The memory seat system allows automatic positioning of the driver seat to two programmable positions using the message center, the key fob or the keypad on the door.
Seats — Driver Seat Module
The Driver Seat Module (DSM) is located under the driver's seat and is attached to the seat frame. The DSM will:
  • control the movements of the driver's seat and power exterior rearview mirrors
  • store and recall seat and mirror positions of two personalized settings
  • receive all power seat and mirror control inputs from the Driver's Door Module (DDM) through the J1850 communication network
  • move the exterior rearview mirrors downward when the transmission is shifted into reverse, if enabled.
Seats — Driver Door Module
The driver's seat regulator control switch is connected to the Driver Door Module (DDM). The DDM receives the driver's seat regulator control switch input and communicates the direction of movement over the J1850 communication network.

Replace Battery and now runs like ****

I had a flat battery once on my RT and found that when I got it going it ran very rough, like a box of spanners. Quick trip to my local BMW dealer and they plugged it into the computer there and reset it all. It then ran perfect.
