Snapping noise and then quit

This is an older RCA 46 projection model # P46151wk. When I turned it on, it started to make a snapping noise and picture would blink very quickly. Within a couple of minutes it began to snap more frequently and then shut down into safety mode. Now, it will not come on at all. Can you advise me of possible things to check. Thanks
Doug

Most likely items that will cause that are the HV distributor and the Flyback. You can get both those items at the following link. Just leave them a email with your model and chassis number off the rear tag and they will respond quickly.

Hi I am Vortash from what you are saying , this sounds like one of the tubes is arcing from the anode . They get damp or wet from condensation due to climate change etc and the electricity tracks to earth at High tension and it cracks as it discharges to earth . The possibility is now that has blown the oscilator transistor that boosts the power up to 19kv . I feel this one should be looked at by an engineer as you are dealing with the High tension end of the set .. Regards Vortash

Snapping noise then quits

Not sure what model yours is, but sounds like you have a bad start capacitor that has dried up or swelled and "snapping" when making connection. If you can give me the Brand and model number I can see what capacitor you need.

Model HO-0250H, heater makes a pair of snapping noises one after the other, perhaps from expansion/contraction. Heater is two months old.

The unit uses oil to create residual heat. The oil can contain small amounts of moisture and when the unit heats that moisture turns to steam, Steam has a great expansion ratio. When the steam condenses back to moisture it can conglomerate into large water droplets instead of being dispersed. This means that when it heats back up the steam expansion is more radical and makes noise. Unless the unit starts leaking oil, it is fine to continue using it.
