Question about Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

Busy signal Yep, the same problem here, I was happily shooting with my 1000D using a tripod and live view mode took 20 or so shots then the busy signal showed up. now everything has frozen and I can't use it. I have contacted Canon and await a reply, I'll update you all when I get it.

Hi,

The busy signal is showing because you are taking photo's quicker than the camera can save the photo's to the SD card. To reduce the risk of this happening, please do the following;- Reduce the size of the image that the camera is shooting. Investigate using a faster SD card. Some camera manufacturers stipulate the use of specific brands and models of SD cards as their cameras have been optimized for there use.

Try a trick by an expert :-

I have the same problem with my 450D, and I have eventually worked out it was the "High ISO speed noise reduction" setting enabled, If the 350D has that setting in the custom settings menu check that, some of the other noise reduction setting will have, I'm told the same effect.

If not, try to update the firmware.

Unless, You need to send the camera for repair.

Thanks.

Hello, my Canon 1000d wont take the picture at night just flash a bunch of times. It also says busy on the screen. what does this mean and how do you stop it from doing this?

This sounds like a flash configuration issue combined with the continuous shooting mode, which will take 3 pictures in rapid succession and display "busy" while the flash is recycling. For starters, switch it back to single shot mode. That's the button that looks like the stack of pages and the timer clock. Then turn off the flash. That's the icon with the flash lightning image with the bar through it.
You will probably need to adjust your ISO, shutter speed, and aperture setting to get a good low-light shot.

Hope this helps!

If you're using the screen to set up your shots, the viewfinder is disabled, and vise versa. It only works one way at a time. MY Question is, where do I actually go to disable the LCD or the viewfinder?

Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. Under the Settings tab select [Live View function settings] and press OK. Select [Live View Shoot] and press OK. Select Enable to use the LCD or Disable to use the viewfinder.

For full details, please see the "Live View Shooting" section in the manual.

I can't see the proposed picture on the LCD monitor.. How do I get that to show?

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time due to the design of the SLR camera which involves a mirror being in the way of the image and the sensor.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu (2nd yellow tab, then Live View Fn Settings) to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "SET" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus in Live View mode so manual focusing is needed.

My canon eos 100D wont's show the image on the screen. it will take the picture when looking through the view finder, but i would like it to appear on the screen. pleae help

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon's range of EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time. The design of the SLR camera involves a mirror in front of the sensor. The mirror in its normal position inhibits the image to be captured by the image sensor. When you shoot, the mirror flips up for a split second and back to its rest position.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "Select" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus for you in Live View mode so manual focusing input is required of the photographer.

How do you active the LCD screen on Canon EOS Rebel XS. I've read teh manual but still cannot active it. this is to review the shot before you take the shot.

In your manual it is on page 95, on how to do this,
It is called LIve view shooting and it does not work on basic zone modes.
1. Set camera to a creative zone mode
2. then under that tools option select live view function setting then press the set button
3 select live view shoot then hit set
4. press the menu button to exit

Cannot preview shots in lcd with new Canon Rebel xs 1000d

There are two modes to the XS's Live View system, selectable via Custom Function 7. Live View is disabled by default, by the way, so you'll need to find this menu item in Settings Menu 2 to turn it on. The two options are called Quick and Live modes. Quick mode works as most Live View modes do, dropping the mirror when you press the AE-Lock button (marked with an asterisk) to use the conventional phase-detect autofocus system. This temporarily blacks out the Live View image, which makes it impossible to know that you're still framing the subject and holding your AF point in the proper place.
That's why they added the second mode, which they call Live, but is better described as contrast-detect autofocus. This works just like a digicam, reading the image from the imaging sensor while adjusting the lens for the setting that produces the most contrast in the image. A small square appears in the center of the image area, and you can move it around with the cross keys. Just like Quick mode, unfortunately, you have to press the AE-Lock button first until you hear the focus confirmation beep, then press the shutter button to fire. It's a little slower at times than phase-detect mode, but it gets the job done. Live mode is really better for tripod work, where you can place the AF area right where you want it and confirm focus onscreen.
Both modes offer the ability to zoom in on your live view, excellent for confirming focus before capture. Using the Magnify button just right of the AE-Lock button, you can zoom in 5x or 10x, then press the AE-Lock button to focus if you like; but of course you can't confirm framing in that mode.
