You need to double tap the light in the top left of the touchpad and it will go out....if it still does not go out after you double tap it, you will probably need to install the "Synaptics Touchpad Driver" from the HP web site.
Here's the link, Drivers software, just make sure you put in the correct OS you are using, and if it is 32 or 64bit

Thanks hope this helps,

Hello

Most of the laptops has a button on the top of the Touchpad to lock and unlock. Sometime it's on the keyboard you have to press (fn) and one of the key from F1 to F12 will show the Touchpad logo. You can do it from there.

Touchpad not working

There's a tiny orange light near the upper left corner of the touchpad to the left of the touchpad. If that is lit, you may only have to tap the upper left hand corner of the touchpad a couple of times to get it to go out. and start the touchpad working.

Barring that, see if the synaptics driver is installed. Go to "Control Panel," change the "view" in the upper right hand corner to "large icons," and see if "Synaptics Touchpad V8.1" is listed.

If not, go to "Control Panel," locate device manager and click (with a usb mouse) "mice and other pointing devices," click "Synaptics PS/2 Port Touchpad," and check to see if it says, "device is working properly." If not or if it still doesn't work, click the driver tab, and click "update driver."

Laptop touchpad not working

Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.

The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.

Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.

The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.

Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.

Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.

Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.

hope this helps

I am using HP ELITEBOOK 8460p latop. My touch light glows automaticllay and unable use the touchpad. Please help me

Hi,
You might have disabled the touchpad accidentally. If the touchpad is disabled it is indicated by a yellow LED on upper left corner of the touchpad and when the TouchPad is active, the light is off.
To turn the TouchPad on, quickly double-tap the TouchPad off indicator (the yellow LED).
