Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

Samsung TV I am a UK(London) resident.I purchased the below mentioned tv in sept. 2004. From early 2006 the picture is periodically displaying slightly diagonally running lines across the screen from top right side to the left bottom- the colour of lines generally slightly green; as channels are changed they become white. Often, after a while, the screen starts becoming brighter until it becomes snowy white and the picture gives a hint of collapsing from the right and the left into the centre into a thin line running from centre-top to centre-bottom -this has actually happened on a few occassions. In between all this the picture has been quite normal. Recently, I called a engineer and despite the fact that he charged me £50 the problem has not dis-appeared. He has ruled out a faulty tube. There are a couple of things that I want to add:1. When I have used the stand-by switch to put the tv into stand-by mode there first appears a thin green line running from centre-right to centre- left of the screen. Then a small red spot light appears exactly in the middle of the screen.2.The sound, of late, has started to diminish in volume around the time the picture is affected by those diagonal lines- on occassions there is no sound. On, either, using the stand-by switch or swithcing the main tv button off and on the sound may return. During the early period of this problem I stopped using the stand-by switch and noticed that I maintained a good picture quality for longer periods!3.In the beginning of this problem I noticed a lot of static electricity discharge on the tv screen -those days I had a electric fan fed from the same multi-socket mains connector. I have ,for long now, removed the fan into another room - the problem still persists. Could you kindly tell me what I should ask my engineer to consider/do with the tv when I next call him.Thank you.

Thank you for your quick response. The model no. is WS 28MO66V.When the engineer first took away the tv he thought that it may be a transformer fault or a 'chip' at fault.How-ever, he has not been forthcoming about what repair he has carried out, since then. The picture played up the very next day after he first returned it - he asked me to reduce the sharpness and brightness when I called him on the phone . I didn't get the point. He again took away the tv for a further two days'. The picture was restored but after I adjustd the custom mode settings to my liking the picture again played up. I have just adjusted the settings down and the picture is now normal .The question is what technical fault requires one to keep the settings so restrained?

I suspect the engineer is not fuly qualified to work with samsung tv's.

Also, the shocks were much more precise when I previously connected PC speakers to the tv. The tv has a  silver frame.I don't clearly recall whether I received shocks from the speaker grilles and the tv frame - I may have.

Just read your list of problems The first fault (Diagonal lines & picture collapse from left & right) Sounded like either A poor connection or dry solder joint either on scan coils or scan coil plug / socket on main pcb.
If this were the case the engineer that called out should have spotted this & sorted it very easily. But you say it is still the same so what did he do ?
Did he give you a reciept with break down of what he did ? If yes please post it here for me to go over.

The sound problem you describe has thrown me a little so could you please post your tv model number on this page so I can see if this is a stock fault.

The static shocks you are getting is relatively normal & not a problem unless you are getting them off of speaker grilles or even tv casing if it is silver in colour.
I am UK based & have access to samsung technical but I will need your tv model number.

Tv wont come on it you hear a clicking but no tv or noise

This sounds like a problem with the relay circuit that controls the power. In which case, it would not be a user serviceable part. It would most likely need to be dealt with by a Samsung technician. If the TV was purchased in the UK, you would have a 1 year warranty with the product. I can't say how long warranty periods would be abroad. For the US, call: 800-726-7864 For the UK, call: 0330 7267864

You may lose some channels when you retune the TV as the channels have been rearranged. To locate them look at the EPG although you may still find that some channels are no longer available on FREEVIEW. See the following link for additional information
