how do i check the filter to my air conditioner. i press the check filter button, but i don't kow how to check it or clean it out.

If it is a paper or fiberglas filter it needs to get tosswed. If its a screen type it is washable. Take it out spray it with a mist from a hose from the reverse side to get the dust off, let it dry.
Then just reinstall.
