Your stone or jets are plugged. if stone try to clean it. if jets try to run needle in jets. it sounds plugged up. check lines. if that does not work diaphragm had a hole in it or the push rod is bent or connectoe is loose or worn out. check these as long as motor works it is usually one of these. good luck

Intermittent starter issues. On my boat it very hard to access the starter and solenoid. When my boat starts it runs perfect. I can start and run it and shut it off numerous times. Now twice it has refused...

replace the solenoid, but,if you are worried about being stranded, while you are there, replace the starter and on all connections, use electrical grease,to keep corrosion away, always use lock washers so nothing gets loose too.

Outboard troubleshooting. I have a 75 hp Mercury with 2 carbuerators. Serial # 6559142 it's around a 1989 model.. Problem= tank bubble pumps up tight...sits for a minute and gets soft...when I pump it up...

Sounds like the fuel pump isn't working, you can buy service kits though quite often corrosion will prevent you from removing the valves.. or it could simply be the fuel cap isn't venting, remove fuel cap and see if the engine continues to run!

Mk4 gti vr6 has power but doesn't start, runs with pop start

Could be a number of things but may want to begin by checking wiring to starter, battery, or even the ignition switch. These components may not turn your engine light on.

I have a 1989 or 1990 Johnson 88 special and all of a sudden, as I was running it about 1/2 speed, it died. There is still spark (as It started a few times and died immediately). I took off the cover

sounds like the fuel tank lost it's venting- try it with a loose cap. Have set my remote tank on the fuel line and had this happen, If none of this sound like it, put some clear plastic line between the fuel pump and the carb. This will show bubbles from any air leaking into the system (not good)

Can't start and gas is not being pulled thru the filter. How do I test to make sure my fuel pump is working?

Pull the spark plug wire to make sure the engine doesn't start. First check the line from the gas tank to the pump. Disconnect the fuel line from the gas tank at the fuel pump. Take off your gas tank fill cap and using light air pressure, blow into the line to see if you get bubbles in the gas tank. Canned air for cleaning computers or compressed air at a very low setting work well for this. Do not use high pressure so you don't burst the line or blow it off a connection that's not easy to get at. If no bubbles come up in the tank, check the line and pickup area of the tank. If the line is clear, reconnect everything. Disconnect the fuel line at the carburator. Holding the end of the fuel line in a small jar, turn the motor over. If the pump is OK it should shoot gas into the jar. If not the pump should be replaced. If it does check your float and needle valve in the carburator bowl.

THERE IS A SUCTION LEAK COULD BE .. PUMP LID, JANDY VALVE OR CRACK AND OR LEAKING PVC .. YOU CAN USE ELECTRICAL TAPE TO DO EACH JOINT ON THE PVC.. START FROM THE PUMP AND WORK BACK AS FAR AS YOU CAN ON THE SUCTION LINE, WATCH THE BASKET FOR THE BUBBLES TO STOP, WHEN THEY DO THAT IS THE JOINT THAT NEED TO BE REPAIRED..ALWAYS PRIME THE PUMP WITH WATER AFTER A PUMP REPAIR.. I do believe the water jets are down on the lower unit by the prop. There should be a white swirl of white bubbles shooting out.

My 1978 140 evinrude electric trim tilt motor working but wont lift or lower happend suddenly after it lifted.maybe the pump?

First make sure you are not in transit mode. Some outboards have a lever which keeps the motor tilted for trailering. You should have a fuse for the tilt motor, check that. If the pump is turning and it sounds like it is whining you are pushing air and either lost your hydraulic fluid or have an air bubble in the system. Check your fluid reservoir.

1991 Johnsoon 90 HP outboard hard to start, floods after stop

Hi, You did a good job of assessing the problem. It sounds like the float valve in the carb is the likely problem. This would overfill the carb when sitting, flooding the engine and the pressure in the bulb pump would go down as the fuel leaked out. Float valve should be investigated and that should Fixya!
