    Not sure what you're asking, but most routers found in any box store have ethernet connections. Typical makes Netgear, Linksys, D-Link in wired or wireless models all have Ether ports.

Nowadays most routers come with RJ45 connectors. That is a connector for network cable.
You might be talking about a serial port, found on many security systems.
If you want to connect the security system, you need a serial cable to connect the security system with your computer, and thru a specialized software (more certain provided by the security equipment, be able to perform the task you have in mind.

My desk computer is wifi. How do I hook up the cords to my phone router? Been a while sense I hooked this up.

VERY EASY :) On your router you have RJ45 connection ports, probably 4 plus 1. 1 is special just to communicate with your modem (if they are not built together as one). Either way, use one of the available RJ45 connection ports and connect a "Ethernet cable/fat phone cable" from the router to your computer and your done. No need to enter a user name and password like with wifi. Cheers!

Hi I have the Motorola SBV 5120 cable modem and it is currently connected to my PC with Cat 5 cable and my internet works fine. I want to make a wireless connection to my laptop which is 802.11 a/b/g/n...

The SBV5120 is simply a device that converts your cable internet signal to a RJ45 computer output that connects to your single PC
It also has two RJ11 phone jacks if you use the modem as your home phone as well. It has no wireless function,
For you to have a wireless connection, you will need to purchase a Wifi Router. These can easily be got at any local computer store or a big box retailer like Best Buy, Staples, Computer City etc,
Most come as a 4 or 8 port wifi router, your choice will be the number of wired connections. In your case it looks like one.
Once you have your router, connect the Modem RJ45 to the WAN input on the router and your PC to one of the LAN ports on the router. In its default state, it should connect you to the internet as normal.
The router will have setup instructions which you can use after you connect the modem and PC.

Hi,

It is possible that you have bad router or defective cables. My company installs LAN (Local Area Network) systems and we fabricate own cables. They test with a specialized tester that you don't have available.

If your router and cables are functional, there is one other quick fix.

The solution I'm suggesting works in my business (LAN installations) about 95% of the time. I trust that it will work for you.

Let's see if I can help you.

Begin by turning on the second computer and your router

? Open Internet Explorer;
? Click on 'Tools';
? Click on 'Internet Options';
? Click on 'Connections';
? Click on 'Setup'
? Click on 'I want to set up my Internet connections manually . . .';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'I connect through a local area network (LAN);
? Clock on 'Next'
? Click on 'Next' [This is not an error];
? Click on 'No';
? Click on 'Next';
? Click on 'To connect to the Internet immediately . . .; and,
? Click on 'Finish'.

That should have you online

All the best

The CD is not available for installation is it necessary? I have all of the cable if the Yellow cable connects to the cable router what does the white cable on the wireless router connect to. Thank...

If the cables supplied have RJ45 connectors then they are used for connecting and configuring the wireless settings in Netgear router and to connect the Netgear to the DSL modem foe Internet access.
Most likely the color of the cables is not important.
To configure the wireless settings, connect a cable from one of the LAN ports (not the WAN/Internet port) to the LAN port on your computer. You may remove this cable after configuring the wireless settings if you want to connect to the Netgear by wireless only. You need to connect other computers to the Netgear's LAN port with a cable if they do not have wireless cards installed in these computers.

The other LAN cable is used to connect the Netgear WAN/Internet port to the DSL modem so you computers can connect to the Internet via the Netgear router.

Follow these instructions to configure the Netgear router.

Router

You would have to refer to the manual to set up the usb connection, so as the router knows that the main pc is connecting via the usb and not the rj45 port. The only other thing may be that your router will recognise when you are connecting with the usb port, as long as it's the pc with the modem drivers on.
