SOURCE: yamaha prop shaft

Think you will need to set them side by side and look at the details. I have used similar shafts but make sure the clutch dog engages the gears properly.

1997 yamaha 75 hp outboard. what does it mean when alarm sounds

It sounds as though you have an overheating or low oil issue. Check for water flow through the engine. Check all exit ports. Dirtdaubers/Wasps can clog these. Is your oil pump working correctly?

Coleman outboard overheating

You should change your impeller.
It is located at the top of the gearbox, around the vertical engine shaft.
First, disconnect the gear control. Underneath the steering bracket, you'll see a long nut with a counternut. ( Maybe you'll have to shift FWD or BWD to get better access ). Loosen the counternut 1/4 turn and then turn the long nut up ( 2 open box wrenches 10mm ).
Then remove the 4 bolts holding from lower to upper the gearcase ( just above the anti-cavitation plate )
The gearbox should drop down easily.
Then remove the 4 screws of the waterpump ( top of gearcase, around the long vertical shaft ). Lift the waterpupp housing, you'll get the impeller.
To reassemble the waterpump, grease the cup in the housing with PTFE or silicone grease, and while pushing the housing down over the impeller, rotate the shaft clockwise.
Reassemble all the rest in reverse order.
Check and adjust the gear shifting...

Oil coming out of were water goes in on leg of yamaha 15 horsepower outboard why is this so ???

If your water pump has failed it could be that your lower shaft gear oil is getting past and running out.
The water pump on those should be replaced yearly. They are a rubber wheel with fins on it. They dry out and weather rott wich leads to their failure.

1988 evinrude outboard

You need to replace the oil seal on the main shaft located below the water pump. Your lower unit gear oil is seeping into the water pump housing. I had the same problem on a Yamaha that I just repaired. Not a hard job. 7_12_2013_1_59_18_pm.png

8hp yamaha runs hot

In most outboards, it will flow through the prop itself (through the inner prop). There should be a stream of water coming from somewhere around the back end of the motor itself, called a telltale, which visually shows that the water pump inside the outboard is pumping water up around the motor. If you cannot see this, then there is obviously a problem with the water pump or pump impeller that needs to be corrected to prevent the outboard overheating.
