We had a problem with a 2001 mazda tribute v6 would not run when cold. we have since found the problem1 (will not rev over 4000rpm. solution1, Engine not reving above 4000rpm dont worry, that is the engine rev limiter. Problem 2, runs rough & engine stalls when cold runs ok when hot Solution2, running rough & stalling when sold. remove & replace plastic manifold & rep;ace manifold seals. this will fix the ploblem. and check you're MAF sensor...should come out with a couple screws, then either clean it off good GENTLY and try it...or replace it aee if that helps.

'87 Yamaha ProV 50: Will cold start and idle well. After a full throttle 1-2 min run will begin & continue running very rough near idle. Will die without addtl throttle imput.

Hi Roderick:
I'm not familiar with your engine configuration, but on some of the older bikes, vibration eventually can cause a wire to break in the coil. When the engine is cold, the wires make contact and it runs, but as soon as it gets hot, the connection is broken or compromised and the spark quits or drives you crazy.
Since your bike runs when cold and quits when hot, I'd be looking for electrical rather than fuel problems.
Hope this helps.

When engines are cold, it is usually normal for them to run a little bit rough due to the EGR valve and the timing of the engine with the manifold and components being cold. It takes time to vaporize the fuel to achieve full combustion. The automatic throttle should activate and put the engine at an RPM approximately 1500 to 1800. At this RPM, you should not run the car otherwise you risk losing your transmission in the long run. It may be also wise to tune up your car by checking the spark plugs, the contact points and the timing mechanism. An erratic timing mechanism can give you a rough idle.

Idle problem integra

check the MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure). The ECM (car computer) uses that to keep idle at minimum 750 RPM. It's normal for it to run high when cold. These small 4 banger motors typically run hot, and they won't run right IF they're NOT running hot, ergo the idle is usually high when it is cold so as to cause it to warm up quicker. If the RPM's drop below 750, suspect the MAP sensor, &/or ECM.

dirty air filter acts like a restrictor which is like leaving choke on. as is ok cold could be this or could be ht lead or ht cap breaking down when hot cos of bad connection

Car rev's up (like a vacuccum leak) only when cold

a vaccum leak doesnt normaly cxause a motor to rev-up it would normaly make it idle low and rough. however if its cold it should run between 1200 and 1800 rpm untill its warm its called a fast idle.

My 1986 Ford F-150 5.0 EFI runs good, but when I start it it revs to 1700 rpm untill I give it a little gas then it drops to normal rpm. How do I stop it from the high revs when started?

Does it rev high when started cold or hot? If it does it either hot or cold, check the throttle position sensor on throttle body. If that is not bad, then check the automatic choke sensor.
