Question about Maytag Legacy Top Load Washer
Hey I have a Maytag PAV2300AWW and the first problem was the unit overflowed. So I tried blowing in the hose in the top panel and nothing.. Then, it started working again ( the water would turn off when it was supposed to) but you have to change the cycles manually and the machine will not agitate???
With what you are describing, there is a busted or loose spring that holds the drum in the washer. When it breaks it can disconnect the water level sensor and so the machine does not know when it is full. Drain the machine and unhook it and lay it down and look underneath from the bottom for broken springs or shock absorbers. They can become broken from washing large loads when the machine spins and is off balance. Then you need to locate the water sensor and it can be a tube that runs along side the drum. IT may have come loose electrically or physically. You can also access the drum by prying up on the top of the machines main housing but you have to be careful not to damage the paint.

SOURCE: Maytag washer
This is similar to a problem I had after my power suddenly went out while the washer was filling with water. When the power resumed the washer would no longer run water... all other systems (agitate, drain, spin) worked fine.
A 10 minute, $113 dollar service call revealed that there was a fuse inside the front upper left area that had blown. Remove the 2 screws at the bottom of the front panel to get access to the inside.
Check it out and replace it if necessary.

I had the same problem a year ago and replace the lid switch asssemby and fuse and it worked fine until now. the switch clicks when I open and close the lid and the pink and orange wires show continuity with the lid closed.

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.
