Question about Refrigerators
My Amana model sx25sw (purchased in 1997) , side-by-side refrigerator is making a noise and I am not sure if it is the motor or the compressor. I cleaned the dust from underneath and the back and front but it is still making the noise. Is there a way to diagnose this (the sound is similar to a helicopter)?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

SOURCE: Buzzing intermittent
could be a relay failing, a long 2 -3 seconds hard electrical hum could be the compressor failing & the relay overload is doing it's job shutting down your overheating compressor, unplug it for 30 min plug it back in a slight hum & click off is most likely just a relay but a long hard electrical hum is bad news Compressor & if it has no warranty left on the compressor repair could run $500.00- $700.00.

amana is having some problems with their compressors locking up. if the compressor is manuactured by tecumseh then tthe compressor is mostlikely locked up and will need replacing. good news is your refrig is most likely less than years old and should be in warranty to amana..

Hi, had the same problem with my RS21DCNS engineer came and made a modification to drain hole (made the hole bigger!) this allows for a little more ice to form without causing the horrid noise. A new backplate was ordered as all new models have a larger hole in the backplate already. It only takes a few mins and it under guarantee if you bought less than 2 yrs ago, but you will have to empty fridge side to allow them to get to inside at the back. Good luck.

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.

Below bottom grate is a defrost timer. Turn slowly clockwise until you hear compressor start. If this works, replace defrost timer.
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze
