Question about Refrigerators
My Frigidaire upright freezer model LFFU14F5HW suddenly will not cool at all-the compressor and fan do not come on.The display on the front where you can adjust the temp only shows weird symbols instead of numbers-it has been like that for a week but now all of a sudden the freezer doesn't freeze at all.I have a freezer full of game meat that I really don't want to lose-please help! Oh,it is just a few weeks past the one year warranty.
Unplug it and let it sit a minute and then plug it back in. If this does not work then you need to do some more testing to see if it is the control board or panel or wiring harness.

Ended up having a freon leak in tubing around door. Luckly the warranty was 5 years in sealed system. New one was FREE.

For the 25 year old freezer: a replacement compressor of the same BTU rating can be obtained and used as a replacement BUT at 25 years old I DO Not recommend the expense of a compressor replacement.
To the owner of the six year old freezer. The buzzing noise is more than likely the compressor cycling on its overload protector. This is an indication that the compressor has failed. In this case also I do not recommend replacing the compressor. If it was in warranty the manufacturer would bear the cost. Replacement compressor come with a one year warranty.

You may be having a freon issue. Read some more info about this here. I type the longer version on my site. There are also factory service manuals to that may be helpful.

Tips for a great answer:
Thank you for your post, Cynthia!
Based off the information you have provided your Frigidaire freezer is not cooling properly and is now displaying the temperature of 56. It sounds like your freezer is not on, even though it has power the compressor is not turned on. I would suggest pressing either the down or up arrow three times within five seconds. That should power on your compressor and it should start cooling properly. I hope this is helpful and if you should need further assistance please feel free to reconnect. -Matt
