How can set my power mac g4 up so as that i'm the owner ....and why can't i download programs,or change my os default broweser

I assume that you didn't get any disks with it either. Taking full control without disks is tricky, however you can take majority control - as long as you know the admin password.

Open system preferences (under the Apple menu) and select USERS.
You need to add a new user and to do that you have to unlock the padlock at the bottom-left of the panel that opens up. To unlock the padlock you need the admin password.
Assuming you have it, click the padlock - endter the password and then you can add a new user. Make sure you set it so that the new user can ADMINISTER THIS COMPUTER. Create a new password for the new user. Then underneath the name of the original user you will have the name of the new user and in smaller letters underneath each name you should see "Admin" If you don't see admin under the new user go back and check the Administer bit - NOT Standard User.
If everything is OK so far, look just above the pad;lock and you should see a small penel saying "LOG-IN OPTIONS". Click there and change the auto log-on to the new user name. Now close the windows (red button) and go back to the Apple Menu and select "RESTART"
When the Mac retarts it should come up with a completely different desktop and very few icons. Go back to the USERS control panel and go through the same routine we just used to add the new user but this time delete the original user.
You, the new user, are now in charge. You can download, install and do anything you want but the computer may still appear on a network as "Old user's Co,mputer"
To change the default browser, open Safari, go to Safari preferences and change the setting there. It's an odditty that Apple put the setting there - but there's nothing wrong with Safari as the default.
If you don;t know that Admin password you will need an Installation CD/DVD in order to change it.

This means that the child lock (control lock) feature is active. There will be a button (or pair of buttons) depending on the model that you need to press and hold to toggle off the feature. If it is a single button, there will be a tiny padlock icon on the button. If you need to press and hold two buttons, the padlock symbol will be in a line indicating both buttons.

A likely combination is the Select and Option buttons. These should be held together for 10+ seconds. (This is the combination for some Affinity washers.)

If this doesn't work and you can't see a lock icon, please add a comment with the model number of your washer. I'll be glad to check what the combination is for your washer. The model number is usually on a plaque on the rim of the door for front loading washers or at the back at the top of the drum for a top loading washer.

I hope this helps.

When i would accidentally press the caps lock key a locked padlock would appear on the screen and i would know that i was typing in caps. it disappeared. i would like it back. please help

Hi janlynn780,

This seems to be because of a change in the application that you had installed in your laptop.

It could be that the settings have been disabled i.e. the notification settings, so you need to check if there is any application running in the background which has it's settings disabled or inactive.

Hope this helps ..:) Let me know in case there are any queries.

The Caps Lock button is normally to the left of the "A" key on the keyboard. I don't know that specific laptop, but there may be a light with the letter "A" in a padlock shown on the top of the keyboard, which will indicate the specific status of the caps lock.

You can reset the whole system by removing the batteries for 10 seconds. Then refit. You will hear a beep. Press and hold 0 until you hear 3 beeps then release. The led should flash indicating that you are in program mode.
Within 10 seconds enter a new master pin (1-12 digits) and press the padlock button. Do it a second time to lock it in.

The Screw that holds in the CD drive is just that, a security screw to ensure the drive isn't removed accidentally.
The system is now in a NO POST mode. The lock LED that illuminates is a Error Code. Try removing all RAM modules, then trying 1 Module at a time and see if the system posts with either one. If that fails, try these steps:

All I see when I turn on the MP3 is a padlock and a !

You need to look at your user manual and find out how to remove the 'safety lock' or 'key lock': this is a feature that prevents accidental pressing of any keys, including the ON/OFF function.
You did not specify what model MP3/media player you had but in general, this function is like that of a Mobile phone and is engaged either via a sequence of push buttons or there is a physical 'safety' switch.
