Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

SOURCE: Garmin HCx GPS unit

The Vista HCx has an electronic compass. You don't need to be moving for it to work, but you do need to calibrate it. To calibrate the compass:

  1. Go to the Main Menu
  2. Select Setup
  3. Select Calibration
  4. You will be asked "Which Sensor Would You Like To Calibrate", select Compass
  5. You will see a page that says "To Calibrate Compass: Slowly Turn Two Full Circles In The Same Direction While Holding The Unit Level", select Enter and do this.
You need to hold the unit level for the Magnetic Compass to work correctly. The specs for a properly calibrated compass are +/- 5°

DIY is risky in this situation, besides there is 3 months warranty by Garmin on their interventions I would suggest you get it done by the professionals

SOURCE: Compass reading on GPS 60cSx about 30 degrees too high

Calibrate the compass (Main menu --> Setup --> Calibration --> Compass), follow the instructions on the screen.
Also, see page 50 of the manual.
Calibration must be done outside - stay clear of any large metallic object (e.g. car).

SOURCE: The compass/ temperature unit went

This is a very common problem with many of the mid 2000 Ford truck and SUV overhead consoles. The console is very prone to internal failure. If the dome lights work but the compass unit does not then it is a faulty computer unit. I offer a reasonable repair service with a lifetime guarantee, check it out: www.autoclockrepair.com
There is a bunch of useful info there. Drop me an email if you have questions, thanks!

Change MMSI number ? simrad rd 68

Hi!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but according to the Owners Manual for this unit:
http://www.busse-yachtshop.de/pdf/simrad-rd68.pdf (Page 6),
to erase a previously entered MMSI, the radio must be sent to a Simrad authorized dealer. I suppose this feature was put into effect to cut down on stolen Simrad products.

Hope this is helpful, sorry I couldn't do more for you.

Tp 30 keeps failing the calibration. Everything else seems to work fine. Tried numerous times using the instructions, doing the slow circles but each time it fails. I believe the internal flux gate compass...

I had the same issue.I opened up the TP30 to find that the wires from the compass to the circuit board had corroded and snapped.Trying to source a new compass unit now.Anyone know if they are the same as the new TP32?

Digital compass won't work

Is this the overhead console unit that also houses the outside temp reading? If both are dead then it sounds like an internal failure. Dim, intermittent, or dead displays are a common symptom of an internal failure. If the compass is just not reading correctly then it soulds like a sending unit issue.
