How how many beeps do you get? Often they will be in patterns similar to morse code. One pattern it might use is "1 long beep 2 short beeps" for example.

Hmm very strange. HP say that 2 short beeps in there BIOS beeps codes section of their site indicates "floppy disk or CD not detected"

Why does the computer beep everytime during start up?

A single beep may not indicate a failure. Sometimes its because the motherboard was designed for an on-board PS/2 keyboard that is not connected (such is the case when you are using a USB keyboard).

If your computer is working, you can ignore the beep.

Multiple beeps indicate a failure or mis-configuration of your CPU, RAM or power. Check with the computer manufacturer or motherboard manufacturer for the meaning of specific beep codes.

How can I log on when dell laptop only beeps

The beeps may be a code unless it's only one.
Depending on age or power source, it may not be able to provide multiple beeps before dying.

I have a Dell Dimension E510 and it makes different tone beeps during and after startup. The computer works ok, but the beeps are disruptive. Seems like there are many more beeps during processing steps,...

When you first switch on your computer it checks certain things to make sure everything is OK and sends out multiple Beeps if there is a problem this is call POST. If you are getting multiple beeps then there is a problem, depending what BIOS CHIP you have and how many beeps you are getting should indicate what is at fault. If windiws is starting ok then it will be a minor problem, the first thing I would check if i was you is the memory. If you have more the one stick of memory installed and one is faulty windows will still start but with the beeping error. Start the computer and goto the control panel and click on System and check what memory that is showing and compare with what should be installed. If its the same then the fault is somewhere else and you will have to give more infomation like what is the system bios and how many beeps.
Good luck.

My compaq persario sr1000 power is on the fan is on. but it beeps with a short beep and keep on. beeps pause and beeps again all with the power on but no picture on the moniter

The beeping you are hearing is a beep code. Since their is no visual image a specific series of beeps is played and repeated to help pinpoint the problem. The beep you are describing, and it is hard for me to know for sure without hearing it is, sounds like a problem with your RAM.

First, try reseating the RAM. If you have multiple sticks of RAM remove them and reinsert them. To remove the RAM, push the tabs on both ends down and remove the stick of RAM.

Reinstall them by pushing the RAM firmly into the slot until the tabs click in place.

Try booting up again. If the same beep happens try removing all of the RAM except for 1 stick (if you have multiple sticks).

If you do not have multiple sticks, you may want purchase or borrow a stick of RAM to test your machine with to determine if your RAM is faulty.

Please let me know if I can further assist you.

How will you know if the processor is still working?

Finding Out the CPU condition whether its working or not

Turn on your PC and listen for a beep. Your computer runs a diagnostic upon startup called "post." Post checks for the basic requirements for your system. This includes RAM, processor and video functions. If those three basic elements are working properly, you will hear one beep from your computer's speaker and you can be assured your processor still works.

  • 2

If you hear multiple beeps, count the number of beeps you hear as this will help you determine if your processor is functioning properly. If you are running Phoenix BIOS, make sure you count and write down the beep sequence.

  • 3

Consult your motherboard's BIOS instruction manual; there will be a section on the "post" startup. Five beeps means a processor error for most standard AMI BIOS systems. The number of beeps you here will tell you the problem your computer is experiencing that is preventing it from booting up. Once you know how many beeps to look for, you can safely determine if your CPU is still functioning properly.

My house power went off and when it came back , i am not able to switch on my desktop. All i hear after i power on my desktop is the fan noise and the beep sound. Pls help

If you hear exactly ONE beep, it means that your computer-hardware (power-supply, CPU, motherboard) is OK.
Multiple beeps are "bad" -- they identify different errors.

If Windows does not "boot", then the power-surge may have damaged your 'C:' drive. Ouch!

    My pc doesn't reboot!

You've not given much to work with!

    Is the AC adapter working?

Is the battery inserted? Is it fully-charged?

When you press the ON/OFF button, does your computer make ANY noise at all? Fans spinning? CD-ROM spinning? Disk-drive "clicking" as it "calibrates" itself? Do you hear one "beep" or multiple "beeps"?

Take the computer to a qualified technician for trouble-shooting.

Computer won't come on-it gives one short beep. it flashes some computer language - briefly - three different times and then screen goes black but does not shut off. how do I fix this?

One "beep" is good -- multiple beeps mean something is wrong.

Restart your computer, and be ready to press the PAUSE button on your keyboard, to "freeze" that text on the screen, so that you can read it.

One beep is good. Multiple beeps is not good.

Most likely you have a loose connection.
Generally if not the connection, the monitor has gone dead.
Possibly you have a defective Video Card
Unfortunately, you may have a defective System.

The first two are generally the cause of such problems.

Check all your connections in the back of the machine. A large Blue or White rectangular connector should be going to the back of the machine, these are color coded so the plug will go in, only one direction in only one port.

After making sure you are connected check your monitor power cable, assuming you get no Lights on the monitor at all.

After that: You may have to assume that either the monitor is dead, or that the video portion of the system is dead. This would require that you either replace the Video Card in the machine. If you get more then one single beep, you may have this problem

This will require that you replace the System Board, if you are getting more then one Single beep you may have this problem.

Please let us know when all the connections are in order, so we can better diagnose the issue.

    Good Luck
