I have my moms pfaff 1222 which I love. But having issues with buttonholes. Seems first row of stitching works but when I push button to make end stitch and then reverse it doesnt reverse

Your machine looks quite similar to some of the older Berninas I've worked on in the past. Perhaps your machine has seized due to the old oil solidifying. This could have happened with the reverse mechanism and the selector levers/buttons on your machine.

I just replaced the motor on this machine and when started it only sews in reverse. To get it to sew forward, I have to push reverse lever down.

The motor may have to be reversed. The reverse action of a sewing machine is the feed below the needle is reversed not the machine.

Model #385.1764180 the reverse no longer works. Is there a quick fix?

Mine was doing same thing. Open up from side and see if a little oil will help. Also, keep pushing down the Reverse button and make sure your needle Iis up, push down the V Reverse and see if it works again. A lot of grease inside these macbines have gotten thick. Keep trying to use it, guarantee it will start back. Mine works all the time now.

Will not sew continuestly when im embrodering when i press the reverse button

It is completely normal for a Bernina 180 and other Bernina models to stitch just a few stitches and stop after first pushing the reversing button. The reason for this is so you can cut off the extra piece of top thread so it does not get caught up in the embroidery design. After you cut off that extra piece of thread, press the reversing button (hold it in till the machine starts) then it will continue with the design. Assuming you do not have a problem (a message would come up on the screen) or you are out of bobbin thread, the machine will continue to embroider till either the design is finished or it stops because you need to change the upper thread to the next color. Each time you start to embroider it will stitch about 3 or so stitched and stop. Cut off the extra thread and press the reversing button again to continue.
If this is not the problem you are having then you need to describe your problem better, in more detail.
This should help! Bill

I have a Kenmore sewing. When I tried to use it today it would only in reverse whether I pushed the reverse lever or not.

Hi Dawn. Thanks for choosing Fixya! when you press and hold the reverse button it will stitch in reverse for as many stitches as you want as long as you hold it. However if you press the reverse button twice and let go, it will sew in reverse until you press it again. Is there a chance your machine works like this and you have put it in reverse? If it is a computerized machine try turning it off and back on. Joe

The reverse won't work. Push the button and it just keeps going forward. When filling bobbin the needle shaft still goes up and down even when the dial has been unengaged as directed

Ok, you have a couple things going on here. You need to remove the top cover of your machine. Let's address the reverse first, look down into the top of your machine and press the reverse button. There should be some action there. If not your button is dirty and needs to be cleaned. If there is movement check for a small set screw attached to the lever on the knob. This may need adjustment.

On the handwheel, you need to take the smaller wheel off and pull the handwheel as far off the machine as you can without damaging the belt.
Clean the area where the handwheel goes over the shaft with canned air - make sure you clean all the way around.

That should do it.

How do I program my Viking 980 sewing machine? I can't find my manual & I think this machine can be programmed to stitch a word/phrase at one time, but I can't figure it out.

First touch the "P" button, the #1 will appear in the left digital window. Choose the first letter you want to sew and then push the reverse button, ( the button furthest to the left with the upside down arrow on it) that puts your first letter into memory. Then select your next letter and push the reverse button again. Repeat the process until your word is programmed into the machine. You can start sewing immediately by pressing on the foot control. Pressing the finishing button (Bullseye) before you start to sew, will make the machine tie off each letter so you can cut the joining stitches. Husqvarna may be able to make you a copy of the manual. They can be reached at: 1-800-474-6437 Good Luck

Buttonholes

Put on the C foot. Select the buttonhole stitch. The machine will start sewing in the bottom left corner of the the buttonhole. Sew the length that you need, press and release the reverse button and sew the right side of the buttonhole. When you get back to the bottom, press and release the reverse button again and the buttonhole will be finished and the thread will tie off and the machine will stop. If the buttonhole is what you want, press and release the Stop button and the machine will repeat this buttonhole as many times as you need until the machine is turned off or the Stop is pressed again. When repeating, you need not press the reverse. Just press down on the foot control and continue until the machine stops by itself.
If you don't like the first one, just sew another one using the reverse button to set the ends.
