SOURCE: need a replacement m8 lefthand1.25

Depending on where you're located, sometimes specialty tool stores carry (or can order for you) spare parts for tools. You won't find it at a typical DIY type store like a Home Depot or B&Q warehouse type store but rather a tool store that outfits the trades. Try going back to the place you bought it perhaps?

Removing the cutterhead onan elu thicknesser jointer to replace the bearings?

It is a long time since I encountered the Elu brand. I had to junk some Elu stuff 30 years ago due to inability to obtain spares. At least bearings are mostly standard items that can be sourced from many suppliers.

I haven't replaced bearings on an Elu jointer but the design and construction is probably similar to other brands so the process is largely intuitive using the usual techniques - warming plastics, aluminium housings and using bearing pullers when appropriate.

If all else fails keep removing bits until the part you need is what remains. Often that is the only method that works due to such tools being designed to be assembled in the least possible time and least possible number of operations. Sometimes the construction is downright sneaky...

It doesn't matter if the original bearings get knocked about or stressed by the removal process but ensure the new bearings are treated gently and not stressed by pressing only on the inner race to fit on a shaft, the outer race to fit into a housing or alternatively warming a housing will ease assembly.

Good luck!

Elu 172. How do I remove flip top and the safety guard to clean?

Hi mate this is in the wrong category but i have an elu flip saw and to remove the guard you take your blade off and guide bush and remove the circlip and the guard pops off but u need to make notes on where the guard return spring fits through a hole on guard so as to replace, and remove the bolt with the screw driver slot in and washer / spacer to detatch the folding arm inside the guard, i will check mine and jog my memory then get back to u,does yours have a duel size bush for different blade diameters / centres. Elu tgs172 motor stopped running and makes whirring noise and will turn very slowly if the saw blade is turned

Sounds like a worn out bearing.
Instead of the shaft turning concentric with the outer bearing, it roles around in the worn bearing like the wheel of a stunt car going around a loop-de-loop --except the relative sizes are closer so it makes a lot of racket.

That Elu is a cool saw concept. They came out in the 1960's before commodity Miter saws hit the market so big. I've used one before.

I suspect the bearings can be pressed out and replaced. Take the saw to a motor repair shop and you might get them replaced for $15 a bearing. There's one bearing at each end of the motor.

How to pull stator out of gearbox to change front bearing

1) Remove brushes
2) Remove 4 screws holding field assembly to the saw frame
3) Pull field off
4) The armature will then pull straight out (It may take some work to wiggle the bearing loose, but it will pull straight out)
5) Press bad bearing off & replace
6) Reverse process to reinstall

Saw growling

the problem is poling and that means the armature is touching the field shoes and is shorting out. If you have replace d the field coils then may be the shoes have not been fitted in tightly enough and the clearance is not as it should be. Worn bushes or bearings will give the same effect as when the current is on the armature is pulled to the shoe.. Ensure that the end caps are fitted correctly to ensure alignment and tighten the screws evenly around the case.

Motor growls when switched on.

The armature is hitting on the field shoes from misalignment of the end caps and or bearings.. When the power is applied the armature instead of spinning is attracted to the metal shoes of the fields and is touching and shorting out.

Elu bearings

Try using a pair of two or three leg pullers. You can also use a split plate and press them off if you have a press. You don't say which model ELU it is.

My bosch table saw runs slowly backwards what part do i replace

Replace the field coil. I'm going to bet its a Model 4000. I have done about 100 of these saws in the last couple of years and my customers always complain of the same problem, "the saw was running backwards"

Change the armature back bearing while you have it apart, they always seize eventually.
