You don't mean the 'switch to the oven', you mean the power to the double pole breaker switch? Videos and text based articles on connecting a Stove to the mains supply in South Africa.
Hi Kobus... some more information would be useful to us to help you.
Are ALL the solid plates dead or only some of them?
When try to turn on a plate... does that little indicator light go on... for any of them?
Does the LED / clock / display work?
If it is only one plate that isn't working... it may have to be replaced. But is sounds like they ALL quit at once.
On the Defy website I looked at the manual and couldn't find any mention of thermal switches or fuses for protection... but it sounds like something might had blown suddenly.
HEY... there are so much computer stuff in appliances today... how about going to the main power of the house and find the circuit breaker ("trip switch") and turn it off for about 3-4 minutes... then turn it back on. That just might "reset" everything.
Other than that... try calling the Defy support line and asking them if there are internal fuses or thermal protector that would cause all the top burners to quite simultaneously.
