If this is a wireless keyboard, you can do two things to try to correct this issue. You can remove the batteries and leave it sit for a few minutes and try again, or you can replace the batteries and see it that helps.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

SOURCE: I spilt my drink on my laptop keyboard...

you can pull the keys out of their sockets and wipe the rubber and plastic holders with a wet cloth. but be very carefull to cloth should not leak, just be wet to dissolve and absorbe the sugar and other stuff that stick the keys. then just insert the keys in the sockets

SOURCE: keyboard problems - crtl, shift, alt keys does not work

I met the same problem, and I fixed it.

For my own case, it is mainly a hardware malfunction happening at the data bus(the wide, plastic strand) connecting the keyboard to the mainboard.
I found that part of that strand was bent, so I squeezed it to keep it flat.
everything has been OK since I did that.

SOURCE: problems with the keyboard

Sticky keys can sometimes be fixed by hitting right shift key 10 times quickly (I'm not lying!!), and or the culprit key (x) the same way. Try that and if it doesn't work, reboot and type. If it continues, please try another keyboard.

SOURCE: Shift Keys not working properly on ACER notebook

The 8042 keyboard controller has been integrated into one chip with other I/O functions so I doubt you can replace it as a single IC and I'm afraid that is what has failed. It is an extremely rare failure but I guess it has to happen some time. The keyboard is kind of a polled matrix so it only takes the failure of a single line to bollix things up.
I think what you are talking about here is a motherboard exchange or repair.

You have selected the wrong keyboard language.
Go to Control Panel select Region and Language. Change the keyboard to your layout. (Probably US).

Dark picture on monitor

Occasionally, you may find your laptop's monitor is too dim for your liking. A normal desktop computer's monitor has an on-board menu system that lets you adjust the brightness and picture control settings as you please. A laptop monitor has no such controls. You can adjust the brightness of your laptop monitor using your laptop's keyboard.

1. Press and hold the "FN" key on your laptop's keyboard. This is the "Function" key, which operates much the same way that the "Shift" key does: It allows keyboard buttons to be used for multiple purposes. It's located in the lower left corner of most laptop keyboards, next to the "Windows," "CTRL" and "ALT" keys.

2. Look at the top row of keys on your keyboard for a key with a tiny triangle pointing upwards and the symbol of a sun on it. This is the "Increase Brightness" key. With the "FN" key held down, press the "Increase Brightness" key. On most laptop keyboards this is the "F7" key, but it varies depending on the model.

3. Continue to hold down the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" key until your dim laptop monitor has reached the level of brightness you require. A laptop monitor can only get so bright. It will stop at its highest setting.
4. Release the "FN" and "Increase Brightness" keys. You have now fixed your dim laptop monitor.

I hope you find it very helpful. Thank you for using fixya

You may need to clean the keys or you may have motherboard issues. Do the keys work on the lower case and not on the upper case or both? If this is the problem your having your board maybe on its way out and need replacing. Hope this helps.

I HAVE A NEW ACER 5517 AND CAN'T GET THE @ KEY TO WORK???

First, does the #2 key work? I assume thats the same key as your at button.
If it does, if you hold the shift key and press 3, do you get the pound sign?

if the 2 key does not work, then the problem is with your #2 button. if the # key does not work, then the problem is with your shift key.

Try the right shift key, blow air into those keys, if it still does not work, you will need to replace the keyboard.

it will be covered under warranty.

Hello.
This is the default keyboard configuration. If you installed multiple languages on your Windows try selecting another language from the language bar near the Tray area (the button that shows "EN").
