Question about Washing Machines
Wife washed her wedding and engagement ring (don't ask). E ring was in the door seal,W-ring gone. Think it's in the pump filter. What is best way to access it? Older models have a lower access panel. Ours a 2013 has a solid panel top to bottom...
You have to wonder why Whirlpool would do away with the convenient front access panel but my guess is that a redesign
made the pump inacessible from the front so you are left with going in through the rear or underneath (!).

you will have to remove the rear panel in order to remove the front panel. The bolt and clamp are inside the front panel.

after removing the agitator from the machine (7/16 bolt) i place the agitator on the floor, step on either side of it and pull up on the top half, ittl come loose, needs a little help! a word of advice though is after replacing the agitator dogs, turn the entire agitator upside down and insert the bolt through the entire agitator assy and keep constatn pressure on the bolt as you turn it boack over and try to realign with thte tranny shat. ( you see the parts wanna seperate as you try to reinstall them otherwise)

Its easy to do, and no you dont need to be a tech. I use a small screww driver w/ the tip in the hole push it left or right until it comes loose. then just un screw the pump cover. be careful the edges are razor sharp.

I use a putty knife about 2" inward , between the top and the front panel on each side . Give a good hit on one side while slightly pulling the front panel forewafd . Then do the other side . The front panel tilts foreward and hinges on the bottom with tabs . Then lift to remove .

There is an emergency door release tab/pull ring attached to the bottom of the door lock assembly.
The lower access panel can be taken off by removing the screws and then reaching up under the door lock and pulling downwards on the pull ring. Pull down and then you can open the door.
