As soon I I turn on ps3 the screen says connect the controller using a USB cable, then press the ps button. No home screen or anything it seems like it's frozen

This screen is the reset/recovery screen, you can make this occur manually, with the system in standby hold down the power button until you hear 2 beeps.

If you connect a controller using the USB cable can you continue? when you connect a controller and press the PS button it should take you to this screen?

My phenom controller wont connect unless connected to usb

1 Hold your controller like you normally would when playing a game, and then flip it over. 2 Use a paperclip to hit the Reset button on the back of your controller. The button is located to the right of the screw found above the sticker on the back of the controller. 3 Connect your controller to your PlayStation 3 using the USB cable. 4 Press the PS button on the front of the controller. The system will boot up, and your controller is now reset and synced with your PlayStation 3. Tips & Warnings: If you use the same controller for multiple PS3 systems, you should do this whenever you notice problems with your controller, since it could resolve the issue. Don't press the reset button on the back of the controller too hard. Otherwise you risk damaging your controller.

My ps3 is stuck on a black screen reading: connect the controller using a USB cable than push the PS button, I think its part of the safe screen but I don't have a wireless. Don't know what to do.

if you have tried to connect the controller using the usb and that didn't fix it try to rest your controller and reprogram it for your system make sure it is fully charged

My ps3 comes on and the screen says for me to hook my controller to a usb cord and hit ps button it has never did this before

First of all dont panic!

it happens to everyone, we have 3 playstation 3's in our house.
basically all it has done is either run out of charge.
or has lost sync with your console.
all you need to do is connect it with the supplied cable and press the ps button.
all 4 lights will flash momenterally and it will re-synch or start charging.

My controller will not connect on my ps3.

Sounds like the controller knows it belongs to the other PS3. It has already "paired" with one console, so that's why you're having a hard time trying to get it to pair with console #2, comprende?
Make sure console #1 is a "hard off", like switched in the back. Now flip your controller over & put a pencil or pen tip in the reset hole. ( Just to the right of the center screw hole.) NOW connect said controller with the USB to console #2. Hold the PS button for two seconds. All 4 lights will flash 5 times, then the 1 light should stay on, Boo-ya! You're PAIRED!

CONTROLLER PROBLEM

Try resetting your Controller. Using a paper clip, there is a small reset button on the underside of the SIXAXIS. Press it.

While your PS3 is still on, press the PS button on the controller.
