SOURCE: Zanussi Electrolux frost free fridge/freezer - freezer defrosting

My husband left the freezer door open a couple of months ago, causing ice to form. The loud rattling noise was the fan hitting the ice. The reason why the temperature started to rise but the noise stopped was because the fan had got stuck in a block of ice and was no longer working. Simple solution - defrost the freezer for 24 hours. Touch wood, it is all working fine now!

There are also Ice maker faults that are NOT included above. This should get you started and if everything passes above diagnosis the problem is most likely in your ice maker circuit. The reason I did not include ice maker faults is because they do not cause alarms.

Why is Zanussi frost free freezer alarm always flashing

Because it does not achieve the correct temperature (for example: -18 degrees centigrade).
For a more precise answer I need more information.
A lot of things may be incorrect:
- Doesn't work defrosting cycle
- The cooling fan is not working
- Too much ice on the evaporator battery
- Faulty thermostat or NTC sensor
- Faulty cooling system (gas leak)
- Compressor
- Electronic

There are 3 lights on the front of the Zanussi Freezone. The green one on the left doesn't light up. What does that indicate? The red light on the right is on constantly. Does this mean that the freezer is...

Starting the Appliance
Insert the plug into the wall socket. The green pilot light will illuminate to show that the appliance is switched on. The red alarm light will also illuminate until the freezer reaches the correct temperature.

Alarm Light
The red alarm light will illuminate when the temperature in the freezer is higher than the thermostat setting. This alarm light will illuminate if:
- The appliance has just been started.
- Fresh food has been put in the freezer.
- The lid has been left open, opened frequently or open for too long.
The red light will go out when the freezer has returned to the correct temperature

Fridge temperature rising - currently at 10 degrees. Internal temperature alarm not being triggered. Freezer not affected. Motor running when door opened/closed.

Although I have never worked on a Zanussi unit, from what you have said it is a classic frost build up in the cooling tubes, which is usually a result of defrost system failure. To verify this you can manually defrost your unit. If the problem goes away, then you need to troubleshoot your defrost circuit, because it will be back in days or weeks.

Zanussi fridge freezer alarm keeps sounding

If the refrigerator and freezer are both working properly. Then the only problem would be the alarm, It's either the placement of the alarm thermometer or the alarm thermometer is stuck closed.

you have a defrost system problem. Could be the defrost timer or defrost heater or defrost thermostat. Bottom filled with ice could be from a plugged drain system. Where you termed "condenser coil" is in reality the "evaporator coil".

I have a zanussu fridge

Re. Zanussi ZK87/46EFS Fridge Freezer

The same symptom occurred in our fridge freezer. The fridge compartment warmed up whilst the freezer compartment continued to keep temperature.

The cause of our problem was diagnosed as a frozen sensor that controls a flap, that controls the flow of cold air from the freezer compartment up into the fridge compartment. We were advised to power off the fridge freezer (removing all food and trays from the freezer unit first), and to leave it to defrost for 24hrs. We needed to place a few towels on the floor of the freezer compartment to soak up the melt water. After 24hrs we followed the power up instructions in the manual (versions are available online if you have lost yours). Within a few minutes it was obvious that the fridge compartment was being cooled – Problem solved :)

Power light flashing on & off

Try to unplug and plug the power cord this may help, flashes is an error code. Try also the defrosting, error codes alarm the owner if there are some abnormal operation int the unit.
