Question about Open Labs Used Neko Lx5 Portable Keyboard Workstation 886830127465

1 Answer

Neko lx5 My NeKo's screen is sporadically malfunctioning - it flickers oddly and it's completely unusable. It started about a year ago, and I was alarmed, but then the display began working again, and I haven't had any problems with it until about two months ago, when it started the same thing again. It would boot up just fine, but then after a few minutes, it would flicker just a little bit, and become progressively worse, until it was constantly flashing with no apparent pattern. Now, ithis is all it does - I have repeatedly opened the keyboard up, and carefully checked all the connections between the display and the motherboard, but nothing seems to help.

Only blue light with blank display on power on

Dear Joseph,

I had similar problem with my DGX620. In my case the display sometimes got blue and sometimes worked fine. The cause was a bad contact of the display flat cable.
I opened the DGX620 and then I cut a small piece of plastic film (35mm negative) with exactly the same width of the flat, disconnect the flat cable and then reconnected it using the film on the other side (non contact side) to increase the pressure and guarantee a good contact. No more problems from nov-2012 till now.

Good luck !

After a gig last night we tried our Marshall JCM 2000 DSL401and it had developed two noises without anything plugged in. The first is a transformer hum that I'd never noticed before and when standby is...

Likely the filter capacitors have a problem. Best to take this in for repair... it is ODD that there is noise with the standby switch is in standby... That makes no sense... In standby it appears that power is removed from the power amp high voltage so nothing should come through the speaker... Unles maybe one off the power tubes had a total meltdown which should have blown the fuse.

I have a old (but almost unused) Korg d1200 recorder. Recently started getting disc error messages. Followed manual instructions to check disc drive and still get same results. Powered it up just now to...

First thing would be to check the power supply voltages. It may be the disk drive is failing. Drives are inexpensive, might be worth a try with a new drive. Also check that cables to the drive have not been loosend by handling.

It works sometimes but mostly never. The power is on and the screen is blank.

For anyone who still has this issue including above morris_gray,
I've encountered this myself with my first generation M-Audio Axiom 25 USB MIDI Controller plugged into a MacBook using GarageBand (G2 apparently has identical malfunction).
It should be noted that I never installed any type of software for the device, that came with the device. I simply wanted a controller for GarageBand, and I will also note that it has worked flawlessly for about 4 years on this setup, until about a week ago...

I'll provide what information I have gathered about the blank LCD screen issue as well as the controller simply not functioning correctly as listed below:
The most common way people test/fix this is to "hard reset":
- turn controller off (assuming you've kept the usb cable connected to your computer)
- hold down both the + and - buttons directly below the lcd, and simply turn the power on. Some numbers should appear on the lcd soon after the reboot and you are okay to release said buttons...
I've read testimonials, watched videos of people doing this and successfully getting their device back in action, though the reset will default anything you have saved for the device.

Sadly, this did not work on mine. I've tried several different cables- in several different usb ports- on several different computers (as suggested by M-Audio on their support page. I still get a lit up but blank lcd. I've even tried to still use it but only some awful noises come out and nearly every function just makes the thing freak out and it becomes silent/unusable/useless.
M-Audio suggests sending it back to them for fixing at this point.
Because I've had my Axiom 25 Gen. 1 for so long and I have never installed anything what so ever that came in the box, and have little faith that M-Audio will replace mine, I will most likely try to take it apart and mess around with the electronics inside as it's just a big paperweight now.
I did read that in the Gen. 1's the blank lcd could be a result of a chip gone wrong, so to speak... Gen. 2's had some type of "grounding" issue that resulted in the blank lcd and such.
I hope this helps anyone, if I stumble upon a way to fix this through my own curiosity I will inform the masses...
I'll be on the hunt for a new controller most likely and it probably wont be an M-Audio...not that I'm upset with the product, it lasted me quite a while and I've made a lot of solid songs/music with it, but rather I feel the need for something different and maybe a little more sturdy that can actually be a synthesizer on its own, not just a controller.

All lights flickering

This is likely a power supply problem...

Be very careful to use an isolation transfprmer when working on the supply in this as there are lethal voltages.

Turn it off and leave it off till it is fixed.

There is a problem in the PMP5000 that is LIKELY in the PMP3000 as well.

The problem is arcing in the rear-most power amp near the heatsink.

When this gets bad, it will short out and fry the power supply and the amp if it persists. The arcing will trip the overcurrent sense and shut down the unit including the display until it finally goes completely.

I have repaired two of the 5000's now with identical problem. There is inadequate insulation in a multi-layer board in the rear-most power amp. The arcing occurs between the output lead of the switchers and the source lead circuit trace for the 9640 switcher transistors. The output switcher lead unfortunately is an internal circuit trace and hard to fix. Once burned, the board becomes carbonized and conductive.

NEVER run the unit without a speaker load on the unit.

The foot pedals don't seem to work when start/stop and fills. have had it looked at but it seems to work for them and nopt for me. had another one of these years ago and never had any problems. This one...

Are you using foot pedals that came with it? If you use other brands they MAY not be compatible.

For instance, Roland sustain pedals are backwards action of some other brands. Some are normally closed, some normally open.
