Question about Hotpoint HSS25GFP Side by Side Refrigerator

Evap fan stops turning

The first we knew of this problem is when you used the water/ ice maker the lights on display would blink, then there was a clicking noise coming from the mother board on back of refrigerator. we then noticed that the clicking noise coincided with the evap fan barely moving. we moved the fan with a butter knife and the fan would take off. the fan will run all day but when checked in the morning it will be barely running with clicking sound.

Re: evap fan stops turning

It sounds like the sensor circuit in the motor is out or the motor is binding slightly so that the motherboard can't tell what the fan rpm is. Replace the motor and you should be ok. This is a common failure I have run in to.

this sounds like a control board circuit problem..but first remove perishables and defrost freezer ..turn off or un plug..leave refr door closed..freezer door open..if you have lots of water while defrosting you almost cirtainly have froozen the evap coils solid..freezer cannot work like this..after defrost..plug in and see if temperature returns to normal..if it does it won't last indefinately..your probably have a bad defrost timer and/or evap heater gone bad

Loud humming noise coming from freezer

I believe what is happening, is your Evap fan has some build-up of ice on it. The reason it stops when you open the door, is the Evap fan cuts off. The Evap fan starts back up when the door is closed. What you'll need to do, is open the freezer door, and remove the back panel of the freezer. This takes some 1/4 inch screws and a couple Phillips I believe. Once you get the panel off you'll be able to see if there is any ice build-up on the Evap fan. If need, be take a hair-dryer on medium or low, and melt the ice off of it. This should solve your problem.

Ice maker is not making ice

Even though the water dispenser is OK you need to make sure the tray(s) in the ice maker are filling. The filter valve, located to the rear of the ice maker can freeze over and stop water flow. Check the supply line for the ice maker, it may be separate from the water dispenser.

My U-line under counter refigerator ice maker evap fan failed

Depends, for the newer models, you can change the evap fan motor thru the front, but if you have the older model, then you have to remove the freezer housing, ice maker assy then the cover to change the evap fan motor.
