You can use the Restore CD which came along with the laptop to repair / recover the hard disk. You could also try the Dell Toll Free support or their website for troubleshooting this error.

Personally, I would dump the Windows Operating system and install Ubuntu Linux. http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

My acre aspire 5517 keeps getting a disk read error occurred and I keeps repeating it over and over what do I do?

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

"A disk read error occurred. Please click ctr +

You have as it states, a disc read error which means you have errors on the hard drive.
As soon as you get into your system run CHKDSK/F, that will attempt to restore the damaged files.
Make backups and look for a replacement hard drive.
Hope that helps.

You have problem at the boot sector of the disk. Maybe it's hardware problem (controler, disk) or maybe it's a virus. Shut down the system and try start it up after some minutes. If it start up make a full back up just in case ......

A disk read error occurred

More than likely you have a hard drive failing/failure.

You should have it looked at if you are not "comfortable" doing it yourself.

Problem with a disk read error

There are a couple of possibilities.

1. The hard drive is defective.

2. The operating system is corrupt.

The easiest way to test this is to run the restore cd that came with the computer to reload Windows.

If you get this error while running the restore cd then you will need to get a new hard drive.
