Lasko Tower Fan stopped working but Speed switch has power on all but one cable, How to find the issue?

you should only have power on the black wire into the switch. The white wire feeds straight through. the switch breaks the black and routes it to one of the three outputs for the motor.

Bleeding the radiator

take the top off the header tank ( part you fill the water in) top to the top run engine until it boils or fan kicks in to cool down the engine. while it is heating up squeeze the pipes around the engine to help release the air better DONT put your hands near any moving parts. keep the water full to the top while doing this. when at temp turn off engine and leave to cool down dont add any water or do anything till it has cooled down. when cooled down top up to the mark and should be good then if not then the thermostat may be faulty. or you have a blockage some were in the system that is causing the over boiling problem also check that the fan is working and the temp switch for the fan is working all these can make the engine over heat, also when bleeding the system have the heater on number one and heat on full.

Unit blinks as if it wants to start put will not start fan starts moving and than stops repeately. Front panel buttons do not work some of remote buttons do

I would check the wiring connections to the fan and to the display board. Make sure they are seated properly. If that does not fix it, then call your dealer or the company and see what options you have. The company number is 800 989 2299.

Evcon Model EB15B Elements glow red for 3 minutes then cycles off. Fan stays off during the cycles. Manual fan switch will turn on the fan. Assistance requested, cls

the fan has to be on while the strips are on. knowing that the fan comes on when you switch it to on at the thermostat but not when your just calling for heat indicates that you have somting wrong with the heating relay or the fan isnt wired properly to the heating relay (posssibly a new motor during the summer) or just a bad relay. when the first stage heat comes on it should also energize the motor the first to come on is also the last to shut off which will make sure the fan runs during the whole heating cycle. until you remedy this you can run the heat just keep the fan switch set to on so its running, this will not hurt anything

I just washed the electrostatic grid and didnt have it thougholy dryed before inserting it back into the unit. Now I cant get the power light to turn on

As long as you have the cells in the correct direction, the air flow direction you should be O.K. If you have a way of turning on a constant fan that will help dry them. I would shut the power button off to the electric air cleaner and run a constant fan for 24 hours. After that, turn the power on and the constant fan off. Turn up the heat and see if it works.

Alpine XL - 15 Fan Stopped Working

Hello again, night light,

I don't think you hurt it by nudging the blades - I have one where it does the same thing unless I have it set on "max".

The challenge is that I don't know which is more likely the problem - I haven't worked much with the electrical aspects of them recently - - I might have to try working with one, although it may vary between models - the one's on the circuit board would be harder to swap-out. What was the vintage of yours again?

Good for you on having a multimeter, and being willing to learn to use it!

All I was talking about earlier was using the CONT (continuity) function to check for a circuit (some models have a little buzz or beep that sounds when you have a connection. If you have the fan pot. wide open, you should be able to get a good signal between the terminals of the pot.

Another option - crude, but effective - would be to "jumper" (short-circuit) the fan terminals (at the pot.) together to see if it runs with the pot. bypassed out of the circuit. This shouldn't harm the motor, and if it still doesn't work, that points to the motor being bad. As always, use common sense and be safety-concious, don't bypass the safety cut-out switch or the like.

I may have to check with one of my brothers (biomedical electronics tech.) for a little additional guidance - - he could probably give me better insight without spending a lot of time on trial-and-error. If that happens, I'll follow-up with another Solution entry in the next few days.

If I can be of further assistance, or if you have additional questions/comments for this item, please let me know.

If/when this solves the issue to your satisfaction, please rate it accordingly.

Thanks in-advance for using Fixya.com,

Jon

My Venta Airwasher LW44 motor won't start

Test the motor to see if it works. Make sure the motor is removed from the rest of the unit. To find out how to remove the unit please hit the "Go Back button and select the "How to remove the motor button"...
  1. Plug the unit in to a working outlet.
  2. Push the #1 speed button on top of the motor.
  3. You now need to engage the saftey switch to start the motor.
  4. Protruding from the motor are two plastic about 3-4 inch guiding arms.
  5. Look inside the end of both of these two guiding arms. One of the arms are hollow and the other one has a white safety switch in the arm.
  6. Use a pencil or small item to push in on the safety switch.
  7. If the fan sarts to rotate the motor is still working.
  8. If the fan does not rotate then the life of the motor has probably ended and a new motor is needed. ( insert motor part link)

Alpine XL-15 fan has stopped working

Hello night light,

How you proceed is going to depend on how comfortable you are taking it apart.

Given it's age and purchase condition, warranty isn't an issue. You will either be able to dis-assemble the purifier and try taking the motor apart and reassembling, or you can find a replacement motor (I've seen some on the web, they start at ~$50).

Another possibility is that the fan pot (the rotary switch that the knob turns to adjust the fan speed) may be out. If you have a multi-meter, see if you can get a signal through (when it's all the way open). If not, try replacing that first. Parts are available onthe web, I can't advertise per FixYa's terms of use.

Hope this helps.
