Its probably broken, but you could just add a foot operated switch from a hardware store which costs about 4$, which is cheaper than replacing the switch and easier to turn off and on while using the tool.

My dremel stylus died on me. I don't even know what a capacitator is?! Could you please direct me to exactly the product that I need to but, and possibly provide me with more in depth instructions?

Cindy, someone would need to examine your Dremel Stylus in order to know exactly what is wrong. It may not be the capacitor, why do you believe it might be the capacitor?

If your Dremel Stylus is still under warranty, you should return it to the store from where you bought it, or, if you bought it on-line, you should contact the retailer who sold it on-line and ask what to do next.

Does your stylus plug into an outlet when you use it? Or is it cordless?

It may be that the battery has finally died.

Capacitors are used in a range of devices but there is a very special type of capacitor that is used with corded appliances to start a motor turning and a different capacitor to keep it running. Motor capacitor

Until it can be determined exactly what is wrong with your Stylus, no one will be able to give you exactly the help you need.

Have you checked the fuse in the plug? Also, have you checked if the Dremel runs in a different outlet?

If you plug it in and adjust the speed control and listen carefully, does it hum at all? Or is there no sound at all?

When you have finished with it, do you put it away? Do you wrap the cord around the base? Could the cord have been damaged? You need to carefully feel along the length of the cable until you reach the end or you reach a point in the cable where it does not feel the same.

Hold up the cord and loop it loosely between your thumb and first finger. Make a loop about 3 inches across. move the cord to make a fresh 3 inch loop. If at any point the curve in the loop looks a bit pointy, the cord may have failed.

There are so many things that could go wrong.

As you have mentioned that you do not know what a capacitor is, it may be a good idea to take it to a repair shop. Ask them for an estimated cost to repair and to tell you what happened. They should not charge you for an estimate. If they do, it should only be a small amount. 5-10.

I have successfully repaired several Dremels but I am an electronics graduate.

If you find out what the repair shop suspect might be the problem, come back here and post more information.

If I remember correctly, you will probably need a special Torx splined screwdriver to open the case if the fault is inside. Don't buy anything just yet. And don't go to just one repair shop, try two or more. If they all say similar things for the fault, then we can sort this out.

Hope this helps.

My dremel stylus nut wont hold the dremel collet even after following the correct procedure to change collet what can I do?

Perhaps the best thing to do is get a second dermal tool with the appropriate size nut. I saw where Harbor Freight had kits for as low as ten dollars.

Dremel stylus 1100 (No Charger)

First you need to get an equivalent charger and some type of male/female or contact harness. This will have to have at least three pins as that is what is already on the Dremel. Now the difficult decision, do you want to open up the Dremel if it's still under warranty? If you don't mind opening it then my solution will work. Open up the Dremel and look at the inside of the contacts. As this is a DC charger it can only have positive and negative terminals. You say there are three contacts, so there will either be two positive and one negative or two negative and one positive. Most likely there will be a bridge wire between the two terminals with the same polarity. Strip a little of the insulation from the terminal wires and solder new leads to your contact harness. Noting the polarity of each pin/contact on the new harness wire the other part of the contact harness to the charger. You will most likely have to make a small hole in the Dremel's outer cover to allow the wires to pass through. As you own a Dremel I'm sure you are capable of attempting this easy bit of DIY. There is only one problem, If the third contact plate is a return signal to the charging base it might be to inform the charger when the battery is full. In this case the terminals inside the Dremel will not be bridged and I suggest you buy a new or secondhand charger. Hope this helps

My relatively new stylus runs for a short while and then turns itself off! Any small restence on the tip while in use also seems to turn it off. Please tell me what the possible cause is.

Battery is flat or has a problem, the dremel does monitor voltage/current and shutdown to prevent battery damage, failure or fire. First step is to ensure the charge is working properly.

Dremel Stylus model 1100

Change the capacitor 220uF and it will most certainly work again. I got the idea from FixYa and it solved my problem!
Easy to change just 2 soldering points and a component costing around 0,2 Euros. If you do not know how to operate a soldering tool ask someone for a quick assistance. The switch takes around 2 min (1,5 min to open the charger and 0,5 min to change the component!).
