Predictive texting crashes the phone

Problem only started last night, and it had been working fine earlier in the evening, i was sending a message using predictive text as i always do and then suddenly i'd have put in one word then pressed the space button and it would freeze then suddenly goes black with please wait and then effectively reboots back to the wallpaper. doesn't happen in non predictive but that is so slow and out dated... it seems i can do predictive without spaces and go put them in after but please, that is just ridiculous! i've only had a phone since august so i'm not impressed, and i had the d500 before which was still going just fine before i upgraded. please advise! thanks.

Having problem with a SGH-U600 which i've had since august 07. 3 weeks ago it started to crash when i sent a txt, could type a line of text out then it would freeze, screen goes blank, please wait message appears then it reboots itself to main screen. It continues to do this for a coupla hours after then returns to normal. Doesnt happen all the time, once a week so far and hoping it doesnt get more than that as i'm pullin my hair out. Have rang t-mobile who i got the phone from, they say that its out of the 30 day warranty period and will cost to get it repaired. Have surfed a few sites and noticed that this is quite a common complaint. Any help would be appreciated before i bin this phone or pass it on to my husband.

My phone is crashing too when I use predictive text - it's sooo annoying! It only happens every now and then but could do with a solution as I am seriously considerig changing my phone, and that's a shame as I like everything else about the phone. O2 have advised me to get all the latest updates off the Samsung website but I remain unconvinced that will solve the problem...

Got the exact same problem, randomly during text editing, only on predictive mine resets and doesnt save the message.

The only thing thats changed recently is I've had new GPRS settings sent to me, but this shouldnt affect it.

I will ring o2 today and find out whats going on.

i am having the exact same problem, ive only had the phone 1 month, i took it back to the shop they said it was a repairable fault and could take 2-3 to be sent off to be fixed! no happy, my friend sent her phone to be fixed 3 times, with the same problem but still not yet resolved

  • Anonymous Dec 24, 2007

Mine started doing that today! It's so annoying! Also when I go to contacts and type in the first letter of the name I want to go to it'll only go to 'D' so basically if I type in the letter 'S' just goes to 'D' lol I've had this phone since March or April I think.

Crashing on predicitve text, clearing the texts does no good. Is there any other way to fix this?

  • Anonymous Feb 18, 2008

Im having the exact same problem with the freezing half way through a text. Took my first one back within a month for the same problem but at that point i thought it was just my phone with the problem but now the same thing is happening again and i have now read that alot of people are having the same problem. Gonna give them hell when i ring up, im not sending it off to be repaired when its the actually model with the fault i want to switch to a new phone. Wish me luck :)

My phone is doing the same thing! Driving me mad! I'm such a fan of samsung and really dissapointed with this one!

  • GoldenBoy84 May 13, 2008

Ive had the same problem. Ive tried deleting all my text messages and it doesnt help.

I sent it off to Phones4You repair and they said it was hardware damage and my fault (then charged me £18 to get my phone back!!!!), but it is obviously a common software problem.

Has anyone been able to get a fix or a replacement phone? I feel conned and angry.

My phone has been doing it on and off for about a month. very frustrating!

Have deleted all messages but lots of memory space. Have returned phone to factory settings but still doesn't work.

Seems to do it less when battery fully charged but thats not always the rule.

Since two days I have the same problem. Samsung advised me to go to a service point for repair, but since the phone is just over 1 year old they'll charge me for this. It sucks!

Do a hardware factory reset by entering the following code:*2767*3855# Note all your phone numbers, music, photos etc etc will all be erased so make sure you back everything up using the PC connectivity software first.

It takes alot longer but put full stops instead of spaces and delete them all then put spaces in it usually works :) but keep saving it to drafts so if it does switch off you can just get it out of drafts

All you need to check is if your Sentbox, Outbox or inbox is over filled. I had the exact same problem and by deleting all or most of the above files, the txting process worked without any issues.

Hope this helps!

Also my phone has stopped remembering words added to the dictionary if anyone has a solution to this i'd be grateful :-)

Turn on predictive text on samsung E2210L

It all depends on the model of Samsung that you have.earlier i had samsung SGH-E730, when I write text messages I can opt whether i want regular typing, predictive text, numbers, or punctuation. Once I am in the "Create message" screen, this is controlled by the topmost left hand button. Pressing it switches from normal typing (icon is a capital A, followed by Eng) to predictive text (icon is a stylized T9, again followed by Eng), to numbers (icon is 1) to punctuation (icon is #/).

There is no general setting that controls this.

Need to turn off predictive text to my LG gu290f

To turn off predictive text, just go to the menu of the phone and select the message, then you select the option for message, then you will see the predictive option settings there you can turn it off.

That is how to turn off predictive text on your phone.

Hope this was helpful

When I text I get an underline and I can't get anything but the first letter of a 3 letter set on the keys

You must disable your Predictive text option, T9® predictive text mode allows you to type words with only one keystroke per letter, and the phone interprets what word you want. For example, to type the, press 8, 4, 3. To enable/disable T9® predictive text mode, select Options. Scroll to and select Prediction on or off.

How do I enable predictive text on my sony

The usual way for most phones is to start to create a new message and hold down the hash key (#-find under number 9), this will usually switch predictive texteing. Or start a new msg, open up menu options and search for T9 or predicitive texting in there.

Go to 'Create new Message' and move down into the text box.
Press and hold the * [star] key for about 2 seconds and the format should change to predictive text and remain that way. if you want to change the letter case press the * key very briefly.

hope that solves it
