How to fit change over valve replacement

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC41's changeover valve is a complex mechanism, and we would usually recommend having this repaired or replaced by a qualified Dyson engineer. If your changeover valve failed in normal domestic use due to a manufacturing issue, and not due to misuse or a lack of maintenance, the repair may be covered under your Dyson warranty.

We're not able to provide directions on carrying out this repair yourself, but I would encourage you to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline to discuss your options. You can reach us by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

Please be aware that if your DC41 is within the Dyson warranty period, and your dismantle the machine any further than is shown in the user guide, you could invalidate your warranty.

Why won't my dyson d28 tilt to vacuum?

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty reclining your DC28. This can sometimes be caused if an object - for example, a pen that's accidentally been vacuumed up - is jamming the changeover valve. This is easy to check for using the airway inspection port:

If you're unable to find anything jamming the changeover valve but continue to have difficulty reclining your vacuum, please get in touch directly so our experts can provide further assistance. If a repair or a replacement part is needed we can also confirm if this is covered under our 5-year warranty. You can reach us on 1-866-693-9766 (US), or 1-877-397-6622 (CA).

Lost suction

Hi Terry, it's Jack at Dyson.

It's very unusual for the changeover valve hose to have become disconnected, as this isn't an easily accessible part. As you recline the machine into the vacuuming position, the hose should move freely forward, to divert suction from the wand and hose to the cleaner head. The changeover valve hose is a push-fit part at both ends. Please don't attempt to dismantle the changeover valve assembly to re-fit it, as this is likely to void any warranty on your machine.

I would strongly encourage you to contact us directly for further guidance on refitting the hose correctly, as we should be able to help you resolve the situation without voiding your machine's 5-year warranty.

If you can email your contact details and the serial number of your machine to askdysonUS@dyson.com, one of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible to provide further assistance.

Best wishes,

Jack

Easiest way to attach spring to the back wheel base?

As long as the black piece still has the "nubs" on both sides at the turn in the "L" shape and the base isn't broke then this is going to be easy. There is a groove on the main unit the little wheel fits into that groove, the "nubs" fit into small holes on the swivel down piece, and the spring fits between the small side of the "L" shape and the bottom of the swivel down piece..

Hi there,

The black curved piece you mention is part of the changeover valve mechanism, which automatically diverts suction from the cleaner head to the hose when you remove the wand from the cleaner. The position you've described it in - open, with the base of the wand poking through - is normal when the wand is fitted on the machine, and is nothing to worry about.

If you have any further concerns, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can provide the assistance you need. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Leaking out of hole

That is the valve asm. to release the water when it is depressed when you squeeze the trigger. Best to replace it, usually it comes with a new seal, hard insert, spring and valve. Check under neath the seal to make sure that the tank is ok, if a hole or crack, then replace the tank.
