There are two parts to the whistle - the hinged whistle bit and the black base that is attached to the spout. They are joined by a pin that passes through the base and through a bracket that is fixed above the spout, and through the bottom of the arm on the hinged whistle. Remove the pin - it is a push fit - so you need a rod of the same diameter. It will then all come to pieces. The U shaped metal spring sits in the bracket on the spout - the open end and the slope on the spring to the top. Then put the bits back together and replace the pin! This is tricky but do-able as all the holes have to line up. You need to have plenty of light to see what is going on. Once aligned the pin goes back in okay but don't try to force it. If it doesn't go in your alignment isn't right.

Strut and Spring Assembly Removal
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  1. Remove the front wheel and tire assembly.
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: To avoid damage to the 6mm drive hole in the front stabilizer bar link ball stud, do not use an Allen wrench to break loose or tighten to final torque the front stabilizer bar link-to-front shock absorber nut.
    Remove the stabilizer bar link retaining nut and disconnect the link from the strut.

  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: Do not allow the halfshaft to move outboard. Over extension of the CV joint may result in the separation of internal parts, causing failure of the joint.
    Remove the strut assembly-to-steering knuckle pinch bolt. If required, slightly spread the steering knuckle to ease the removal of the strut. Pry down on the lower control arm and roll the strut base out of the knuckle. Do not pry on the halfshaft, as damage may result. Wire the steering knuckle up to prevent the halfshaft from moving outboard.
  1. Partially lower the vehicle.
  1. Support the strut assembly and remove the top three mount-to-strut tower nuts. Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.

  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: The strut assembly is under spring tension. Attempting to disassemble the strut without properly compressing the spring can result in injury.
    Using a suitable spring compressing tool, slightly compress the strut spring to relieve initial tension. Loosen the upper rod nut. Continue to compress the spring until the tension is relieved. Remove the upper rod nut.

  1. Remove all upper mounting parts, coil spring, and coil spring isolators from the strut and save them for reassembly. Carefully note the position of each part during removal to ensure proper reassembly. Inspect each part for wear and damage as it is removed.
Installation
  1. ani_caut.gif CAUTION: The bearing and seal assembly is press-fit onto the upper mount. The mount washers must be installed in the correct orientation.
    NOTE: Be sure to check the spring insulator for damage before assembly. If the outer metal splash shield is bent or damaged, it must be carefully bent back, so it does not touch the locator on the bearing and seal assembly.

    NOTE: New gas struts are shipped with the rod in a locked down position. To extend the new strut, remove the external tie down and/or rotate the upper end of the rod, counterclockwise.

    Install the coil spring insulator, coil spring, and upper mounting parts to the new strut assembly. Make sure the spring is correctly seated in both spring seats.

  1. Position the strut assembly into the vehicle. Install the three mount-to-strut tower nuts. Tighten the nuts to 35-40 Nm (25-30 lb-ft).

  1. Partially raise the hoist.
  1. Position the strut assembly to the steering knuckle. Install the pinch bolt and tighten it to 115-132 Nm (85-97 lb-ft).
  1. Position the stabilizer link to the strut assembly and install the retaining nut. Tighten the nut to 90-100 Nm (66-74 lb-ft).

  1. Install the front wheel and tire assembly.
  1. Lower the vehicle.

How do you get to the rear end springs of a 2001 Ford Taurus without taking the whole car apart.


you need to remove the complete strut assembly from the car to replace the springs and as such you will need a spring compressor to compress the spring for removal from the strut assembly.there should be 3 nuts at the top of the strut that mount it to the inner trunk and 2 bolts and nuts that mount it to the spindle assembly at the bottom of the strut.then you can remove the strut from the car.compress the spring remove the upper bearing plate nut and remove the upper bearing plate then remove the spring.install in reverse order and make sure you note how the components were positioned when removing,as you will have to assemble components in the same position as they were when you started.

Loud noise


Various noises can mean various problems.. clacking or whistling sound can be bearings (found at the back of the outer drum), or even the spindle/spider. Loud knocking noise can be shocks, or broken damper springs. Need more info, maybe a indication of when exactly you hear the noise?

Are struts on the front or back of this car?


The struts model (MacPherson Strut),are both in front and back of this car.

Of course this is only the cartridge, you have to transfer the spring, and the top mount of the existing strut. You need a pair of coil spring compressor to do the job. The basic procedure to replace a strut is:
Remove the top nuts that secure the strut assembly to the frame mount inside the engine compartment. Do not remove the center nut.
Mark the lower strut mounting location on the hub for installation reference. The alignment will be close if the new strut is installed in the same position.
Remove the bolts that hold the strut assembly to the hub.
Remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
Mark the top mount for installation reference. Using a side mounted spring compressor, compress the spring and remove the top nut and retaining washer. Pull strut assembly out from the bottom of spring.
Slide the new strut assembly up into the spring and reposition the top mount onto the spring in the same position that it was removed. Install the retaining washer and top nut.
Tighten the top nut to the manufacturer's specifications and carefully remove the spring compressor.
Place the strut assembly back into the vehicle.

Anyting go between leaf spring and axle. now i


just the spring mount wleded on the axle, but it should be on the top of the axle, meaning the spring sits on top of the axle, it does not hang from the bottom of it. Sounds like someone has changed the mount position.

2002 chevy 2500HD Duramax the front left side of truck rides an inch and a half lower than the right. the front end also sqweeks when you turn the steering wheel


sounds like you broke a spring or a spring mount
check opisite side also just incase somtimes the springs spin out of mount and lodg in weird positions

When i applied my brakes, it whistles it's not my brake pads or shoes or springs.I brought it to dealer and they changed the springs,and it still whistles.1999 dodge caravan.


Try this disconnect the brake booster vacume line plug it and drive. BE CAREFUL YOU HAVE NO POWER AST BRAKES!!!!! If the whistle goes away then you need a brake booster

NOTE: Replace a hammer spring assembly only if there is visible damage or broken parts can be seen in the assembly.
5. Remove the mounting screws from the old hammer spring assembly. (See Figure 18, page 367.)
6. Handling the hammer spring assembly by the mounting base only, gently pry the old hammer spring assembly off its
mounting pins. (See Figure 18, page 367.)
7. Inspect the hammer bank and the old hammer spring assembly:
a. If there is ink on the hammer bank mounting surface, the hammer spring assembly mounting surface, or the hammer
spring neck or tines, reinstall the old hammer spring assembly and replace the shuttle frame assembly (page 405).
b. If the old hammer spring assembly and the hammer bank are free of ink, install the new hammer spring assembly
Installation
1. Using a clean dry cloth, wipe the hammer spring mounting surface on the hammer bank. Make sure the cloth does not
leave lint on the hammer bank.
ATTENTION Hammer springs and hammer tips are fragile. Do not touch the hammer springs or tips. Handle hammer springs by the
thick mounting base only. Apply pressure only to the mounting base.
NOTE: Replace a hammer spring assembly only if there is visible damage or you see broken parts in the assembly.
2. Handling it by the mounting base only, remove the new hammer spring assembly and mounting screws from the box.
3. Handling the hammer spring assembly by the mounting base only, carefully position it on the hammer bank mounting pins.
then gently press the mounting base down against the alignment pins. (See Figure 19, page 369.)
4. Continue pressing down on the mounting base of the the new hammer spring assembly as you install the mounting screws
from the replacement kit. Using a Torx T-10 bit adapter, torque each screw to 14 inch-pounds (1.58 N•m). Tighten the
center screw(s) first. (See Figure 19, page 369.)
NOTE: Use the 1-30 inch-pound Torque Screwdriver, IBM part number 16F1661.
5. Install the hammer bank cover assembly (page 354).
6. Install the shuttle frame assembly (page 405).
7. Install the ribbon and load paper.
ATTENTION Do not attempt to adjust or “tweak” hammer springs.
8. Run an operator print test and check print quality (page 223):
a. If print quality is acceptable, return the printer to normal operation (page 339).
b. If print quality is still degraded, replace the shuttle frame assembly (page 405).
