You can either change the boot order by going into the bios and setting the cd as the first option or by pressing F12 as the computer boots to bring up Dell's boot order menu.

No operating system found

Is there a CD or DVD in the laptop while you're trying to boot? If so, remove it and try rebooting. If you cannot get any result then your hard drive has failed.

Do you mean it won't pick the disc? If so, try F10 it should also give you a boot menu if you don't see press any key to boot from cd... The other option is boot into BIOS and change your boot order. CD-ROM/DVD should be the 1st option.8_28_2012_7_14_07_am.jpg

Hi, my asus eee pc 900 don't want to come on.

Probably it is because some system files imperative for proper start up of the computer have been corrupt. Firstly, try to press F8 when booting the computer. This will give you an option to choose a repair section of your computer. Choose to repair and the computer will try to solve the start-up problems of your laptop. If that fails, put the Original CD (Recovery CD) or the Operating Sytem that your computer uses, then boot the computer while pressig F2 or Del to enter into the system BIOS for you computer. Then in the system BIOS look for "booting order" or "boot sequence" then set the CD-ROM to be the first on the list. Then press F10 to save and exit the system BIOS. This will let the computer to boot from the CD and the CD will give youan option to repair the system from its files (located on the CD). When the Repair is done, remove the CD and try to boot your laptop normaly. This will solve you out of that...
If this one fails, then you have to use a CD called Error Rescue Disk (ERD) which contails alot of Diagnostic tools. Boot with the CD, let the CD finish to load. It has an interface like that of windows and you just go to "start" and go to administrative tools and you will be given a list of options on how you want to repair your compter. Obviously, you will need to choose start-up repair. This would help i guess

Some computers allow you to select an alternate boot device by pressing the F12 key as you boot up.
If your computer doesn't have this option then go into the BIOS configuration and change the boot order and make the CD-ROM the first boot device and the hard drive the second boot device.

Willn't boot up frome the cd rom

You can do this by changing the BOOT Priority in your BIOS settings.

To get into BIOS:-
When you first turn the system on, you get what they call a POST screen (normally has the laptop logo or enegy star monitor rating), at the bottom of the screen, it should give you an option or two (i.e. F1-Boot Options, F2-Setup (also called BIOS). Different systems use different keys to enter the BIOS (or SETUP), this is usually F2 or Delete.
Once you are in the BIOS, just have a browse for BOOT OPTIONS or BOOT PRIORITY, and change the value of FIRST BOOT to CD-ROM.

Save these new settings to CMOS and exit. The system will now reboot, and this should solve the problem

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop that has been giving me problems. I tried to do a system restore but it will not boot up off of the CD. I have tried F8 but and that gives me a number of options but...

Hi Lindsay,

That's too bad about your system.

First, what kind of problems were you having as the reason for wanting to perform a system restore?

If your system will not boot off the CD, then it might not be #1 in the BIOS order. Try this:

  • Power up your Acer system.
  • When prompted (after memory testing completes), press CTRL + ALT + ESC to enter CMOS setup.
  • At the CMOS Setup screen select Advanced BIOS Features
  • Verify the Boot Options Sequence is set to the following order:
    1st [CD-ROM]
    2nd [Floppy Disk]
    3rd [Hard Disk]
  • Insert the Acer System CD, DISK 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  • Press F10 to exit and save. When prompted, Do you want to save CMOS data?, select [Yes], then press ENTER.
