A common fault on this and similar models, I presume the printer is still working ok?
the way to fix is to replace the entire controlpanel which comes as a single assembly- easy to fit, not overly costly to purchase, comes with good fitting instructions straight from HP, although I suggest if the printer is ok and you can still read the display- you should leave it as is.
