How do I clean or fix sticky keys (keys that take a lot of pressure to depress).

Most keyboards can be taken apart easily and cleaned with alcohol. remove the screws from rear of keyboard and it will come apart being careful with the keys not falling all over. if its a laptop they are difficult to clean because you cant take the board apart. you can remove keys and clean with Q-tip.

No matter how careful you may be, knocking a cup of coffee or spilling a glass of soda over your keyboard may happen. This does not, however, mean the end of your keyboard. If you act quickly, you may be able to fix your wet keyboard to avoid any corrosion of its electronic components or any short circuit which might render it unusable. By following a few recommendations, you should be able to fix your wet computer keyboard.

Unplug the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any corrosion or short circuit. If you spilled water over your laptop's keyboard, turn your computer off by clicking on "Shut Down" on "Turn Off" in the start menu, unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Turn the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove most of the water from it. Take a hair dryer and set it to its lowest temperature setting. Use it to dry any water which might remain under your keyboard's keys. Wait at least 12 hours before plugging your keyboard into your computer again. If your computer is a laptop, wait 12 hours before turning it on again. For Other Liquids Disconnect the keyboard from your computer immediately after the spill to avoid any short circuit or corrosion. Turn your computer off by selecting "Shut Down" or "Turn Off" in the start menu, remove the battery and disconnect the power supply. Place paper towels on a table, turn the keyboard upside down and shake it over them to allow most of the liquid to fall down. Take a few clean paper towels and wipe the liquid off your keyboard's keys. To clean between the keys, you can also use cotton swabs with just a little bit of water. If the liquid which you spilled over your keyboard contained a high amount of sugar, such as soda or sugared coffee, you might have to remove some of your keyboard's keys to clean the surface under the keys with paper towels or swabs. You can do so by lifting them gently with a screwdriver or by using a key remover, which you can find in some IT stores. Wait at least 12 hours before using your keyboard again. If your computer is a laptop, wait the same length of time before turning it on again. My keyboard is not working especially a ,f ,j ,l ,g. how do I fix this? help

Every day your computer is exposed to dirt, hair, dead skin and other kinds of grime. This can drastically affect your keyboard's performance. Removing your keys is a simple and effective way to clean the inside of your keyboard and improve keyboard response. This is a simple operation and should only take a few hours if done correctly. This is important to anyone who wants to know how to properly remove their laptop's keyboard keys.
1. Print out or draw a keyboard map of the location of your keyboard's keys. Turn off your computer.

2. Position the laptop so that it is under a lamp or so there is sufficient light shining onto the keyboard. You want to be able to see all the dirt that is under your keyboard.

3. Take the end of a flat-head screw driver and carefully pry any of the letter or number keys off, preferably starting with the "Q" and working your way to the right. The letter and number keys are easier to remove than the command keys.

4. Collect the removed keys into a container so you do not lose them. Take special care when removing the tab, caps lock, shift, space bar, enter, forward slash and back space buttons. These buttons are attached to a small metal pin. It may take a little more effort to remove these, so be patient.

5. Feel free to clean the inside of your keyboard once all the keys are removed. Take a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol and wipe the areas around the keys to remove the grime and dirt. Use tweezers to remove any bigger bits and pieces of dirt or hair.

6. Refer back to your keyboard map and put your keys back into their right location. Position each key in the center of the plastic connector and press around the edges till it clicks. Feel around a little till it is tight and secure.

I hope you find it very helpful.

I spilled coffee in my compaq laptop./ The computer works and will turn on however the keys are sticking. so I cant type a sentence. Is there a qucik fix for this>

take your laptop to the expert who can deal with laptop well.don't try to clean the keyboard yourself because it is easy to remove the keys from the keyboard but then you won't be able to fix them on the keyboard properly. If you still try to remove the keys you can damage the keyboard's key sensors.

Laptop Certain Keys Non Responsive on keyboard

if it was just water ...shut it down and blow with cool air from a hair dryer until it will work ...not with hot air cause it has some plastic sheets inside..just let it dry ...and will work ,,if it was something else ..with sugar ..like beer..juice or so...it will need opening and clean well and dry and after that will work ..if it has permanent damages needs a keyboard replacing ...
meanwhile if it loosing its functions...just connect a usb based kayboard and use it instead..until replacement ..if the functions will not came after drying ..but if it was just water will get back after it will dry completeli and no longer make false contacts/..
