Dryer won't tumble but gets hot

try holding the door switch with your finger and turning the drum with your hand after you push the start button , if this does not start it then you will have to replace the motor

I have a affinity dryer that just humms when I turn it on. I have power 220 at recpt. no code reading?

Sounds like the motor could be locked up, Is the dryer turning if not belt broke , Check belt, take the front access plate where the motor is located and turn it on check to see if the shaft of the motor is turning at normal speed and again check the belt, with power off and belt is not broken by hand turn the drum to make sure nothing is blocking it from spinning freely. if that is free and clear than my bet is on the motor itself as it sounds like it is in locked rotor.
Cause's of locked rotor
Motor seen its better days
if equipped the start/run capacitor could be out
Hope this helps.

Whirlpool dryer. When pressing the start button the motor humms. It keeps humming until opened or unplugged. Does seem to generate heat though.

Push start button the dryer will tumble, but immediately stops

there is a relay that latches on when you push the start button .. that relay is released by the "door open" switch .. i would suspect that the "door open" switch is bad .. thats usually a button that is pushed in when the door is closed ..

Won't run

If "won't run" meaning; "does not tumble/spin" this can be a couple things;

1. Defective Drive Belt (Likely): Broken or jammed (not properly attached to motor/pulley). Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or rotate/tumble. "Normal ware and tear"

2. Defective Door Switch (Very likely) - Very common due to constant "slamming" of door. The door switch enables power to be passed through-out machine when door closes for safety purposes. Switch located at door area and can be tested for continuity. "Nothing will happen when pressing start; unit will not heat or tumble/turn". * Fairly easy to replace; two mounting screws.

3. Defective/Jammed Motor (Rare, but possible): You may hear a "humming noise" and burning smell. Also, excessive lint in blower housing may jam the motor from rotating. "Does not come on; does not tumble/turn"

Remember to disconnect power from unit before servicing.

Dryer not tumbling

Broken drive belt, or drive belt disengaged. Or stretched. Or lost tension spring. Humming is motor running, not driving drum.
