Question about Pentair Minimax NT Heater

NT mini max not heating at all - won't fire

We have a mini max NT heater on the pool - 5 years old.  It won't heat.  We have replaced the combuster (blower) and that didn't fix it.  The part was very rusted though.  Replaced the ignitor and it still doesn't work.  Now pool guys says it is the burner but he isn't sure he can get a new one installed so recommending new heater (Ouch).  Is there another way to fix\troubleshoot this problem.

Too late. Had to replace the whole heater. Very expensive. Better luck next time. Thanks.

When I turn my mini max plus 400 heater on it clicks then nothing happens, what's up with that

If it is clicking it is trying to fire (calling for heat). This indicates that the internal safety loop Tstat, and IID are working. It is either a bad gas valve, your ignition wire, or lack of gas. If the gas line had been open for servicing for any length of time it can take a while for all the air to get out. Best call out a tech to do the repair, you are literally playing with fire.

I have an mini max nt w 6800 controls ignitor

The voltage to this ignitor should only be 120 volts. If you are getting 240 volts to the ignitor, there is something really wrong with the wiring to the heater or in the heater.

I let my pool heater freeze

Once a Pool / Jacuzzi heater freezes they will haunt you again and again. You fix one leak and weeks or months later another one appears. Sometimes the only damge done is just the manifold gasket. It would be worth HANDS ON repair "estimate" to find out if it is the manifold or the heat exchanger that has failed. If the heat exchanger has failed BUY A NEW ONE.

I have a Pentair MiniMax NT heater about three years old. The unit is making a loud "popping" sound when heating. I think its the heat exchanger from what I am hearing. Can a heat exchanger be cleaned out?...

the heat exchanger can be reamed or replaced but it is quite a job; replacing the heat exchanger is very expensive and time consuming. unless your pool chemicals are extremely out of balance, most especially low ph from using tablet chlorine or too much acid the heat exchanger should not have worn out this quickly. the best solution if you do not have a pool serviceman is to call Leslies Pool Supply or a trained Pentair service tech. It may be worth the service call to have the problem diagnosed by a pro.

MIni-Max 400 heater cycling

sounds like you may have a water chemistry problem more than a heater problem. High pH coupled with the heat of the exchanger in the heater will allow the calcium in the water to precipitate and scale the tubes of the exchanger. Make sure your water is balanced, pH 7.4-7.6. Water balance factors include pH, total alkalinity, calcium, TDS, and temperature. Use the langlier saturation index to determine your water balance. If your water is balanced, you may have a bad thermal governor. If you hear the heater water hammer and bang around and then shut off, you definitely have a scale buildup in the heat exchanger tubes. Hope this helps...
