Question about RCA RT2910 Theater System

Cannot Get tv sound to output through Surround with digital optical cable

Hello, My dad own an RCA Theater system and a TV that has and optical Output. We have tried getting the sound to play from the Tv to the surround with the optical cable, but to no avail. My dad has told me that it was setup and working at one point in time, but can not tell how it was set up, as he isn't all that great with technology. I have tried many different setups, as well as checking setting on both the TV and Surround. Here is what i know: The digital Optical cord is in perfect condition, so i know it is NOT the issue. Both the ports for the optical cord are in perfect condition as well, Also is not the problem. I have tried all modes of the surround with out doing anything that i wasn't sure of (so that i didn't screw anything up. I have checked the option on the TV but there does not seem to be anything to do with the optical cord. We have a Blu-ray Player hooked up through the HDMI with 2 HDMI cables. One from the Player to the Surround, One from the surround to the TV. It all works fine, we get sound trough both the TV and surround, as well as Video from the TV. The optical cord has plugged in/Setup correctly (going from the TV's optical out to the Surrounds Optical in). The surround is in very good condition, so i don't think that the system not working properly could be and issue, but is slightly possible. The TV is a WiFi/Smart TV. I do not know if this will have anything to do with the issue or not. Thanks for the help, Deven

I presssume both device were bought at the same time. If not please refer your tv manual for additional information and or your tv supplier. You may also ask support to tv manufaturer's website the same with the theater system. Hope this helps... Goodluck,

Testimonial: "The device were not purchased at the same time, forgot to mention that. Also the surround was pre-owned (in great shape though) so we did not get the manual. Also the TV came from rent-a-cent so no manual there either. I also forgot to mention that the TV is a Panasonic Viera TX-P50ST30"

SOURCE: RCA RT2280 surround sound mode button wont select 5.1 dolby digital mode.

I had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it. Assuming that all of your equipment is powered on, (tv, blu-ray/dvd, rca receiver) you'll need to go into your dvd players audio menu and select the dolby digital audio.
Once you do this, the digital signal is sent to your receiver from the dvd. The receiver should automatically set itself to the dolby digital preset. If it doesn't, press the surround button until you reach it. I found part of this information here. And the rest was personal experience.
Also, it depends on if the disc format is in dolby 5.1. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: I have a new 52"

I have the same situation....what I have done is connected my Blue ray to the TV via the HDMI connection and the audio to the RTDVD1 via an Optical cable. I find this is the best connection and sound reproduction so far. The input of the RTDVD is the SAT/Optical input and then switch the source to SAT/OPT. You will have to make adjustments in the BlueRay player's audio setup to enable the 5.1 DB digital sound etc.

How do I connect my DISH, TV and Blu-ray. Right now I have my DISH satelite HD cable connected to the TV, and a HD cable connected from my TV to the Blu-Ray. The problem i'm having is the sorround sound...

hi,
Is there is any optical digital output in your satelite HD. Then connect that optical digital output of satelite HD to the optical digital input of your surround system (blue ray player) using an optical cable.
Then press the function button on the remote of surround sound system (blue ray player) and select D.IN. (D.IN means DIGITAL IN). You will get the audio through the surround sound system. if you need any more assistance fell free to contact me through fixya.
ok

E320VP LED HDTV just purchased. How to I hook up to a home theater system if it has no optical input jack? Thanks.

You should be looking for an optical output on the TV and an input on the home theater. if you mean the home theater has no optical input then you will have to resort to using RCA cables, they wont provide surround sound but most TV channels wont use surround anyway. They are the red and white sockets on the TV. If you need further help please respond with the brand and model of home theater system

Want to use all 5 speakers on surround sound yamaha htr-6230 on tv programs. how set up?

Depends on the audio source for your TV sound. If it's a digital cable box, run a coaxial or optical cable from it to an available digital input, assign it as "TV" and you're done; or if the cable box has 5.1 analog outputs, usethose to the Multi Ch imputs.

If your TV sound source is only RCA cables (stereo) you're stuck with DSP surround modes.

I have an lg lcd mod#lc427d hdtv how do i hook up an rca rt2280 system to it. i have a dvd player hooked up to tv now using hdmi cables, rca av reciever does not have them...

You can check your dvd player for a coaxial or an optical sound output, then you can plug it directly to your receiver. Those two are the best options after HDMI. Another option is A/V RCA type cable, you´ll need 3 stereo A/V wires, in order to connect the 6 channels. Remember to uncheck the HDMI sound output option on the DVD menu.

Jvc no sound when i have tv on

If your using a cable box or dss or fios, use whatever "input" your system has. preferably optical, or digital coaxial. all cable boxes dss and fios receivers have both optical and digital coaxial outputs as well as standard rca.

If your not using a cable box and are direct from the TV to the stereo, then it depends what the TV has. Most TV's have at least a "monitor out" that's analog rca. If you've got an LCD, Plasma, or digital TV, chances are you have an optical out. All that you really need to make sure of is whatever input you use on the JVC, when you want to listen to TV, it's got to be set on that input from the front. ie DVD/DTV/Vid 1/ Vid2/etc showing on the JVC display. That's the input on the back you must use to hear it. If you have any more questions, just post a comment and I can help some more. Hope this helps

No surround sound when attaching hdmi to TV

Try running the optical TOSLINK cable from the TV to the receiver. If the TV doen't have a digital optical output, then try going into the menu on your cable box and setting the audio output to the digital optical out. Also check your TV menu and make sure NETCOMMAND is diabled. Some of your newer HDTV have Netcommand that allows the TV to control other devices through the HDMI cable.

SURROUND SOUND

Do you have HDTV with Digital Coax out or Optical Out? If you do you can connect your surround system rear port mark Optical In from your HDTV Optical out. Tosh link fiber cable..

Now if you don't have HDTV with Digital out nor a HDTV but CRT set with Analog Stereo output you can connect using RCA left/right cables to bottom of the unit where you have HDMI, Component and Audio out. This is where you would connect your TV too. For audio playback using the AUX mode.
