Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have an HPa6700y I purchased about three months ago.  At the time of purchase I installed a high-end graphics card myself (ASUS EAH4870 DK/1G Radeon HD) and it had been running beautifully until now.  I have used it for gaming as recently as yesterday morning. Last night I installed a new game and was looking for a headphone jack somewhere on the main unit--not sure if I accidentally jostled something in the CPU or not, but seconds later my monitor (an HPw1901) went to sleep while trying to start a new game.  When I restarted the monitor it displayed the input status for VGA as ''no input signal'' and ''monitor is going to sleep.''  I tried re-booting and running a start-up diagnostic but the monitor fell asleep again about 3 minutes into the diagnostic. I swapped VGA for DVI to see if it was the cable, but had the same problem, and soon it got to where I couldn't even get a loading screen before the monitor went to sleep.  I can hear everything whirring in the CPU as it boots, it just doesn't appear to be getting through to the monitor.  I got frustrated and let it rest last night. This morning I put the VGA cable back in and turned the power strip on and off and basically re-connected all the cables to give it one last try.  I turned it on, and it booted up fine!  I checked my e-mail, surfed the web for about 10 minutes, then launched my new game.  I got through the opening credits and it went to sleep again!  What's going on here?  Please tell me it's not the video card.

How do i get my asus model ul80j to switch from integrated graphics to nvidia

From my years of working with computers most of them only work with one video card at a time. If you have two video cards on the computer and if you have them both connected, a lot of computers get confused and can't handle that.

I've seen computers where there is a VGA Port (that normally comes with most computers) and the user goes out an purchases some heavy duty graphics video card and installs it. When they try use the VGA port, the computer refuses to switch to it as long as that other video card that they purchased is in the computer.

I've down countless of house calls to repair a computer where the purchased video card has gone bad and the customer thinks they are up the creek without a paddle until they get a new video card. Not so, I just remove the bad video card and plug into the vga video port that came with the computer.

Hiya ive just installed silent hunter 5 and it seems the graphics cardbisnt good enough is it possible to purchase a better graphics card as this laptop is only a couple of months old?

Unfortunately it is not possible in a lower end computer. Lower end computers have integrated video cards on the motherboard. High end gaming laptops typically will have a replaceable graphics cards but generally run over $1000 (for the laptop)
Anything with Intel graphics chips are so so terribly sub par to even the cheapest discrete graphics cards I'm afraid.
You can build a budge gaming desktop for around $700.

Hi granttoolmad
Shut down computer and disconnect power plug . Extract new graphics . Reconnect and reboot computer , you should get video back . Install the driver with the cdrom you purchased with the card . Shut down . Install new card . and boot your machine . Wait for Windows to recognize the card . Shut down . Connect your monitor to new card . Reboot .
Best regards ,

Major issue with recent purchase from Newegg 8600gt silent grahics cards

You bought them inJan 08 and in August 08 the second pait quit working? ask your money back and indeed go for somethign else, ATI Makes some good cards as well.

On the other hand, it remains quite strange that 4 cards died in 8 months time. Did ASUS find a cause for it? i think you should not give up on them but invite them to find the cause of this and come up with a proper solution.

COMATIBILITY ISSUE

Hi Bhairave.
If you card reader uses a USB port.
Please make sure your operating system is fully updated. I found no reason for your card reader not to function through Asus web site for your A8V-VM Socket 939 board. You can open device manager & check out your USB controller & check if there is a problem. If there is a problem there it will show up with a yellow ! point. You may need to re-install any software that came with the card reader. Your card reader is under warranty & suggest you have it replaced.
