Your internet explorer browser could be at fault. Try a different browser such as Chrome or firefox,. If they work then your problem is with the IE browser part of windows. If so, no big deal since the other two browsers are better and less memory intensive.

Have you tried repairing your operating system? Or if you have a spare hard drive kicking around you might try installing the OS on that drive. If you still have a problem then it appears that you may have a hard ware issue. The latter can often cause a machine to not boot up or just shut down unexpectedly. Could be memory, cd rom, floppy or any other peripheral that is connected and part of the boot up process.

also getting these yellow question marks in device manager for unknown device.

  • richie46 Mar 19, 2014

Have you added any new components to your machine? Does the addition coincide with your problem? If not there is a driver issue for something you have in computer - that is what the yellow markings indicate. Could be a usb stick, a wi fi adapter, or anything not being recognized. Try this - with computer turned off, unplug the power supply connection to the motherboard - wait about a minute - plug Power supply back into motherboard and then turn on power - see if that resolves the issue.

SOURCE: e-machine computer will not shut down

When you say "it will not shut down", are you referring to clicking on start and then shut down?

You could try forcing a shut down by holding the power switch down for about 5 seconds.

You may be dealing with bad or overheating with your processor or memory. If possible, try swapping out your memory chips to see if that does the trick. If not, you will have to try swapping out the processor (much less likely you'll be able to swing that).

Hold old is the computer? Does it freeze up before it shuts down, if so then the caps on the motherboard are probably bad.

Whereas Internet Explorer is a very popular browser, you may have problems with it from time to time. Internet Explorer has been known to either randomly shut down or close pages.
This can be extremely irritating, especially if you are in the middle of a project.
Use these tips to fix Internet Explorer if it keeps closing Web pages.

Start by deleting your browsing history.
Open Internet Explorer and click the "Safety" tab found in the top right corner of the Web browser.
Then, choose the "Delete Browsing History" option.
A box will appear on the computer screen.
Make sure that there are checkmarks next to each option listed in the box.
Click the "Delete" tab to delete the browsing history.
Move to the next step if Internet Explorer keeps closing pages.
Download, install and then run both an anti-malware and an anti-virus software program. Spyware, adware, viruses and other similar infections can cause Internet Explorer to shut down or close pages.
Deleting your browsing history may not take care of these problems.
Spybot and AVG Anti-Virus are two very useful free programs that will search for and remove harmful infections from your computer.
You can download these two programs by using the links in the Resources section below.

Go to next step if you are still experiencing problems with Internet Explorer.

Try resetting the Internet Explorer settings.
Open Internet Explorer and then click "Tools."
Choose "Internet Options." Click the "Advanced" tab.
Then, click "Reset" found at the bottom of the box.
A second box will appear on the screen.
Click the "Delete personal settings" option and then click "Reset."
You will need to restart Internet Explorer to finish the process.
Go to the next step if Internet Explorer continues to close pages.
Run Windows Update. Open Internet Explorer and click the "Safety" tab in the top right corner of the Web browser.
Select the "Windows Update" option.
You will be taken to the Windows Update Web page.
Click the "Express" tab on that age.
Windows Update will then check for any updates.
Click the "Install Updates" tab to install any of the recommended updates.

Computer keeps shuting down

Shuts down when? Right after you boot it up? Or does it run a while then shut down?
If it shuts down after it has run for a while then the computer is probably running hot. Either the CPU Fan is not working or the Thermal Paste has dried up or is too thin to keep the CPU Cool. To prove it is running hot, let the computer sit for a while then boot it up. Once it boots up use it until it shuts down and immediately try to boot it up. If it does not boot up that means it's running hot. But if you let it cool off then try booting up you will be successful.

Downloaded explorer 8, now cant open anything at all. just says isass.exe system error, security accounts manager initalization failed because of the following error. The handle is invalid. error status:...

Well then... you should restart your machine and press F8 (on your keyboard) continuously until prompted with a menu.

Select the option "last known good configuration"... that should bring your machine back to how it was before IE screwed it up.

Hope this helps!?

Start up and shut down

Extremely slow operation can be the sign of many issues. The first of them is the hard drive failing. (I suspect this as the most likely reason.) You should be able to run hard drive diagnostics from the F12 menu. If they fail, replace the HDD.

If the diags pass, then next thing I would look at is free space available. At a minimum, you should have 10% OF THE HARD DRIVE free for Windows to cache data. Dropping below 5% usually effect dramatic slow downs and below 2% can prevent internet access too.

Other possiblities include Virus/Spyware infection
