I have black splotches on L 1/4 of tv screen model p420142x3
That sounds very much like the screen has been damaged, perhaps by a knock or a bang?

what you can do is take off the back pannel and there is a cord on the top of the board that looks like a computer board, there are many boards in the TV but the one I am talking about is twords the bottom where the video jacks plug in to the TV. Ok once you have located the pannel there is a cord on the top kinda tword the right side, it is many wires inside a black covering. What you need to do is just simply unplug it and plug it back in, do this as many times to try to get it to work. If that doesn;t work you can replace the cord and if that doesn't work then the screen is out and would cost WAY too much to fix, you could buy you a new name brand TV.

ha ha ha this problem is caused by the Y-SUS or Y sustain board (any name is used for it) if you open your tv you coud see around 4 big boards, the left is the Y-sus, if you test its two fuses you can see one of them are blown that means that your YSUS is blow it, the part is 6871QYH953A. and the price is from 35 (the fix kit) to 280. I'm sorry for my laugh but I had the same problem and found it that this model of board is LG and around 18 brands and diverse model of TVs have inside this piece of **** and all of them have the same problem sound and no image.

Check your remote of a button labeled (Format, Aspect Ratio, Screen size etc, you may have the tv in 4:3 viewing mode. If you are on a cable box and using its remote check for same named buttons.
